If nintendo are going to SUCCEED with its Gamecube console, then it is going to have to start appealing to the mass market, and at the moment it just doesnt, plain and simple. It appeals to kids and gamers that have been playing since they were kids, but it doesnt appeal to the types that got interested in the playstation.

Getting the full resident evil series was a good start for nintendo (and full credit) but they are gonna have to follow this up. Some light gun games would help for starters, I could never understand Nintendo's lack of lightgun games. And they HAVE to get MGS2 and GTA3 if they are gonna stand a chance.

Obviously they will always have their fanbase but little things like this are the difference between shifting a few units and becoming a household item...

Exactly! And think of the lost

Interesting idea but not too cost efficient.
Its got potential but not for Perfect Dark.

It would also be a nuisance in multiplayer splitscreen games too.

I think that a stand alone light gun would be better and an option on some shoot em ups to allow you to move with one hand and shoot with another.

As for lightgun games, the Gamecube has Konami (Time Crisis and Point Blank) and Sega (House of the Dead and Virtua Cop series), so expect some real neat light gun arcade conversions to come by sooner or later.

You're sort of wrong there, but you have brought up a good point. The public are easily won over impressive FMV sequences. Nintendo prefer to show actual game footage which is more honest, but doesn't claim the buyers so easily.

I also agree with the point on

GT3 is boring. Anyway, if you look at GBA sales, Mario Kart Advance has outsold most PS2 games.
I think that gamers prefer a balance - sometimes fun, sometimes serious.

With the PS2 and Xbox fully into generic realistic fighters and racers, the Gamecube has a balance between realistic ones (like Ridge Racer) and more fun (F-Zero and Mario Kart).

The

Yep.
Pretty much and Nintendo seem to be fine with that.

Nintendo could do with the likes of MGS2 and GTA3 but who's to say that these games WON'T reach a Gamecube.
The only people I've heard say otherwise are hardcore Sony supporters and I don't think they know exactly what Konami and DMA are planning.

I think that the Gamecube has a good balance.

The PS2 and Xbox take themselves too seriously while trying to be too realistic and often lose a lot of fun in the process.

The Gamecube has some games serious, others fun.
Some realistic, others cartoony.
All are garaunteed to be damn good rather than a dodgy game behind nice FMV.

Exactly! And think of the lost opportunity for nintendo to have created a clip-on lightgun piece (complete with sight) for the Rumble Pak/Memory Card slot to turn the N64 Controller into a gun, using the Z Trigger to fire...

I don't think you need many lightgun games. One or two would really be enough for me, since they're largely the same anyhow, but i think having the option is a bigger selling point than perhaps nintendo realise.

For the mega drive and snes, both machines' light guns were bazooka style, right? I think that was where it all went wrong, shooters would be so much better with s pistol-style light gun, it's just more accessible.

But wouldn't you love to play perfect dark and be able to actually shoot? I know i would.

The RPG point is a good one. I was dismayed to hear Raven Blade has been cancelled. NOT a good start fo gamecube life.

With the lightgun tho, altho i agree it isnt the most important genre, i think it is one with so much more potential than is being used right now. Imagine what the genius of nintendo could do with a light gun game (altho it would no doubt have a mario theme lol).

I agree with you on most points apart from the lightgun one.

Yes lightgun games are ok, but there not the most importent genre. I mean, how many light gun games were there for the Playstation? There was Time Crisis and Point Blank. There was also Resi Gun Survivor, but that was PAP and I wish I never bought it!!!

What Nintendo really need is some decent beat-em-ups and driving games. The N64 survirly lacked in the beat-em-up department, and I attribute it's demise quite a lot on this fact.

Also the Gamecube need more killer RPG's! The N64 only really had the two Zelda games, and nothing else. For the Gamecube to do for Nintendo what the SNES did, it need loads of GREAT RPG's! Nintendo should patch things up with Square and then they's both be SORTED!

:)
