It's hard not to get drawn into the recent barage of 'vote for me' and 'vote for him' posts cluttering the chat forum, and spilling into the others, but have you ever asked why it's so important?

I expect almost all of us will admit to deciding what topics to read based on the title, does this ever extend to the author? I know i'd have to say yes, but to a much lesser extent. If you're looking for attention, there are better ways.

Do we show more respect to the notables? Not just in reading their views, as above, but also in how we may treat them, how much we value their input to the site.
Compared to the average poster, clearly the notables enjoy a lot more of this respect, but newbies aside, do you really base this on the colour of a poster's name (don't worry, i won't take the obvious analogy!), or simply on your experience of their previous posts?

I know that there are certain regulars who i view in the same kind of way as the notables. Why? Because they do always post well, and so i always take time to consider what they have to say.

What else is there then? What can be so great about being a notable?
I think it can only amount to the same as a big, exclusive copularity pontest. Everyone shows their opinion of other members, and for those who do well, you get to be liked, you get to be a winner, and you get the rest of the forum to acknowledge that they think you're worth something, that you're special.

Okay, nothing wrong with that. It's nice to have other people say nice things about you. It's nice to be acknowledged. Don't we all love that, be it in response to our topics, a gad, or the notable vote.

But is it really this important?

Why do we seem to need the acknowledgement of others so badly to devote so much energy to it? Is it healthy that the wide acceptance of our contribution, in the form of the decision to grant on us a special status and colour, is really that desperately important? Or can we be satisfied with our own self image?

I don't know about you guys, but i don't steal. I not treat people badly, not unless they're doing something to me first. I don't wait in dark alleys to mug pensioners, stealing their pension and the keys to their cars, go joyriding recklessly through housing estates where kids are playing in the streets, and swereve to hit family pets and wild animals on the road. Often. Thus, yellow letters aren't really that important to me.

But it'd look so pretty...

It's not Notability that earns you respect, it's

That's why I'm never going to do an

I can totally agree with you there. I will not ever do an election campaign. If people like me, they will remember my name and will vote for me.

It was actually Sniper who came up with the handshake... probably why it hurts so much.

Ah, well for me it was the secret society handshakes that did it. Some people imply that I may have written some good posts too, but I can't see it myself... ;-)

Of course, it can be quite tough, especially with that stupid Notable Rebel Alliance, when all we had was people insulting us.

Of course, I could've banned you all at any time, but I decided not to. :D

It no different really, its sucks because I get the impression all these newbies all think the sun shines out my backside which I hate... not the newbies the whole sucking up thing.

Is it possible to retire from being a notable and slip into the realms of obscure and unread posting again (i.e. the XBox forum) or am I stuck with it?

Remember, a notable is for life, not just for Christmas...
