Nintendo's share price is falling faster than a leaf in autumn. Why? The industry is pointing the finger at the poor sales of the Gamecube, citing all the surplus stock sitting on the warehouse shelves.

Nintendo are a big company, of course, but they are pretty worried about the fairly hefty fall in their company's profits by about 37 percent. Even their usual fallback on the handheld market is now being threatened by Sony's new handheld Playstation, currently being readied for release over the next year, and their Pokemon franchise, which is slowing down of late.

The news is that they want to ditch the Cube and try again, but doing this would drastically affect their company image. This was a company founded on trust, when they took back faulty NES consoles without arguement and replaced them with new ones in Japan it made their sales jump through the roof.

Whatever way they decide to stay afloat, it looks bad for the true gamers who were hoping and believing that there could be room for 3 consoles in the market. E3 showed that some companies are cutting back again on their Gamecube titles, despite earlier efforts from Nintendo to gain support from big players like EA Games. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

It's all opinion though.

To me the Ps2 has very few games that intrest me in the slightest, to me it just looks like a dated piece of kit with an extremly lacklustre line-up.

Xbox i'll be purchasing very soon, though mainly for gun games. Variety in games is unfortunatly where the XBox suffers.

Gamecube has the biggest variety in its line-up, the most innovative, original and quality in it's games.

Oh and Gamecube is actually sitting in 2nd place, it's sold over a 1 million more units than Xbox. How long this will last I don't know but that's how it stands at the moment.

It's all down to opinion though.

The Xbox is an amazing bit of kit. Just look at the graphics of Halo - and that was a launch game. Have you seen the screens of Halo 2 yet? I never normally get involved in these "console wars", but from what I can see, with the current market of games/hardware, the Gamecube is sitting in the right spot - 3rd, behind the PS2 and the Xbox.

Issue with the internet idea, is that when you say "Surf over to Nintendo.com" it sounds dead easy (and it is on a computer), but the Xbox can't even browse the web for gods sake. It's limited to games only. I narrow vision in my mind. You can buy a internet box for a tv for about £70 - why can't the XBox do this simple job - it even has a hard disc already, so why not? Ahh, we don't wan't people not buying pc's when they can do the lot on XBox - make them buy both. Nice one Bill. Nice little earner.

Unless Sony bring out a 64bit handheld first!

Just because you're in 1st person and have a gun does not mean it's a straight 1st person shooter.

It's a 1st person adventure with shooting elements, the game structure is completly different to that of Halo, Goldeneye etc etc. Anyone who's played the game should be able to see this.

How comes you have to go into first person mode to do anything with it? OK, Max Payne, Jedi Knights, etc...

Metroid Prime isn't a first person shooter though.

To compare it to games like Timesplitters 2 (already on Cube) is like comparing chalk to cheese. They're 2 completly different styles of games.

The simple fact is that Nintendo are in a market already owned by better consoles with better games. It's like a race - someone has to come last. Whereas Sony and Microsoft are the Sally Gunnels, Nintendo is the Daley Thompson. The Gamecube had a slow start, but they haven't really improved things by releasing games like Metroid Prime (which was OK, but the control system was Godawful and it was repetitive) onto consumers when we already have Timesplitters, Unreal, Halo, Wolfenstein. A perfect example of an overcrowded market swallowing it's rivals without even blinking. The ace up the Gamecube's sleeve was Rebel Assault, but I remember that getting average reviews. Hopefully the next game will be better (it looks fantastic).
