I am listening to:
Pennywise (So-Cal Power Punk)
Capdown (UK Ska'rdcore)
Bad Religion (one of the biggest US Punk Rock bands of the 80's and 90's)
GreenDay (C'mon you've heard of these guys... haven't you?)
Descendents (early pop-punk with an 80's hard-edge)
PS Limp Bizkit, Korn and their ilk do not qualify as punk, so (at the risk of being unpopular) I don't want them discussed here...
I also want to hear from people who maybe hate punk rock and get their views and angles... just as long as it doesn't resort to pointless namecalling...

Sorry man but c'mon...
OK point taken I have heard of all the above bands u named but only actually heard any songs by UK subs and The Damned, and maybe these were some of the 'original' punk bands, but Punk can't just stay in the old times. At least GreenDay still have a very Punk Rock ethic (as do most Punk bands who haven't 'sold out' as we tend to put it). Warning was a very different sound but people would complain if they just released more of the same cos 'they aren't progressing' etc.
And what about Bad Religion??? Their latest stuff may be softer, but the lyrical content is as good as ever, and you cannot claim they have sold out! They are now back on Epitaph with their next album coming soon! Also u cannot claim that bands like Pennywise, Capdown, Rancid, etc. aren't punk. Even if their sound isn't the same as the bands u have listed as 'true' punk they still have punk rock ethics, sing about what they believe in and don't care what the mainstream thinks of them.
I respect that u like these bands and maybe are annoyed with people who pose as listening to 'rebelious' music cos they want to look 'cool', etc. but I am interested in the history of Punk Rock as well as its' future. I have been looking for UKsubs albums on the net and downloaded a few songs (which were really good!), and want to get the latest album by The Damned 'Grave Disorder'.
Also has anyone heard of Leatherface??? they r a UK band and I've seen 1 of their CDs in HMV and I was wondering if it was worth my investment. I hear they are UKHC from the 80's I believe.
You could be really elitest and say that the only 'real' punk bands were the 1st wave of UK punk bands eg. Sex Pistols, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks and others like the ones u may have seen on 'the top 10 Punk' in that top 10 series on TV. U may think that saying that those 70's punk bands were the only 'real' punk is closed minded, but many people who would consider themselves punks (maybe u wouldn't) thesedays would say that u r being closed minded saying that bands like Greenday aren't punk. I mean many punk bands in the 70's weren't exactly heavy compared to stuff like Pennywise and Suicidal Tendencies today, but they weren't called 'pop with sneering'. The clash weren't exactly heavy compared to punk rock nowadays, but they are still considered punk. Just because bands like Greenday aren't that heavy doesn't mean they aren't punk.
Now 'sell out' bands are another matter but I won't go into that now...
LOL I introduced Andy
> to them.
ok thanks tim
The Vandals (awesome US punk veterans, great lyrics)
Minor Threat/Fugazi (the classic sXe pioneers)
Gorrila Biscuits (possibly the best hardcore album ever)
The A*taris ('cause they have nice tunes and sweet lyrics)
Me First & the Gimme Gimmes (punk covers, but really, really good).
Smoking Popes (just lovely, US punk's not all just skate kid immaturity y'know!)
Nerf Herder (did the Buffy theme, remind me of the Vandals and the mighty Weezer)
That and loads of other, non-US punk stuff of course.

LOL yeah true they are just a pop band with guitars nowadays, but before Nimrod and this Warning pap they where a proper Punk band, they where playing to small arenas and not releasing singles. Dookie and anything before that was not sold out pop music.

... not bad though seeing as i have just been

LOL I introduced Andy to them.
The Damned, The Exploited, Discharge.
These are punk bands.
Green Day, Blink182, Sum 41?
These are pop bands, so run about shouting "PUNK ROCK!" in the band t-shirt whilst watching the video on MTV.
Irony...I love it.
