where is the mansion?
Diaz's (old) mansion, starfish island. Or prawn. Well, one of the two.
where can i get a chopper from if i have only just started?

Um. Go to the second big island from the island with the film studio on.
As soon as you get over the bridge, look left, there should be an open door of a media building.
Go in, you will find yourself on the roof. Go up the stairs till you find the helicopter. This is is the small version though, and it is not as good as the proper one or the police one.
To get the proper one get Hyman Condos and it should be on the roof or if you have Diaz's mansion unlocked, go to the roof there.
To get the police one, it is on the second island again, look for a police station and circle it till you find stairs. Go up them and there it should be. There is more than one police station on the island though.
NOTE: Sometimes when you go there the helicopter won't be there, just an empty helipad instead. Leave, wander about a bit, then go back. Keep doing this until the helicopter is there.

Should be look right, but you don't seem to mind.
And, the bridges open once you have done the mission with the machine gun in the helicopter, Phnom Penh 86.
