Maybe not, but in the wake of GTA3 and all the hoo-har surrounding it, it's probably best we put it into perspective.
As a game, GTA3 is definitely for an older audience, not because some kids shouldn't play it, but because of the theme, the partial indecency and what you have to do. But is it really that bad? And haven't we seen if before?
Some might say that killing is killing, but as we know, that isn't the case. Running someone over in GTA2 isn't quite as 'in your face' as GTA3 - Now, I haven't seen a movie clip of GTA3 yet, but from people's judgement, it seems that the game is quite graphic.
I would deem GTA2 acceptable... you can't see faces, the view is high up and in general the game is pixels, not people. However, I think GTA3 might be a little over the top... at least I thought that... then I thought to myself... I'm a blatantly bias Ninty, would I mind if GTA3 was exclusive on Gamecube? Hell no... In fact I°«d probably brag about it, despite not buying or even playing it! Then I tried to put the game in it's place... not in the top 100 or anything, but in the violent games list. And you know, what - despite the game being violent, there's nothing there we haven't seen before... and at the end of the day some people will still play the game properly and not run round with a Shotgun like some but in Glasgow seeing how many pensions they can rob in 15 minutes.
I doubt if anyone who has Perfect Dark or Goldeneye can honestly say they haven't shot a guard in the knackers or Natalya in her breasts... I have... it's damn hilarious... well, for immature guys like me - :D But think about it... is this any different... this premeditated de-genital-isation (Just made that up :D) can surely be no worse than shooting someone in the groin.... and escorting a prostitute to a bar can't be much worse than watching late night Bravo with your friends when you were 13 or 14...!
As Goatboy said, people will rave about this game... go barmy and cause so much upheaval, but when you put it onto perspective, it isn't a major crime against humanity... sure the morals aren't quite in line but in the world today there are far worse things going on than some lads, not harming anyone playing a game that is more true to life that the false faces of parliament who cover up their own feelings and embarrassing attributes with a poncey pretend-to-know-it-all front.
I'm not knocking parliament, anyone or anything here, but when the wave of abuse comes, someone needs to tell these people that there are far worse things in the world that a few mature and generally smart, decent lads playing a game that probably won't affect them like the millions of other games that haven't either.
GTA3 is a violent game, and some of the ideas behind the game are sadly, true to life - but killing someone in this is no different to killing an unknowledgeble young guard with a family of 4 in Goldeneye, Red Faction or Perfect Dark.
When all is said and done, and the smoke has cleared - It's a game... some thing you P.L.A.Y! - Not an interactive manual on how to live life!

When they released Dr No, the scene with the bond girl (i forget who) coming out of the sea in a bikini craeted an uproar - deemed to be 'pure gratuitious sex' and such. But though standards of such social acceptance change, do bad things happen any more ofetn than in the past?
Well, yes. But only in so much as availability of weapons make it easier and hard drug addiction etc. creates new financial motives. Society's acceptance of real violence doesn't seem to have been deteriorated.
