...The cause of, and solution to all of life°«s problems!?

Maybe not, but in the wake of GTA3 and all the hoo-har surrounding it, it's probably best we put it into perspective.

As a game, GTA3 is definitely for an older audience, not because some kids shouldn't play it, but because of the theme, the partial indecency and what you have to do. But is it really that bad? And haven't we seen if before?

Some might say that killing is killing, but as we know, that isn't the case. Running someone over in GTA2 isn't quite as 'in your face' as GTA3 - Now, I haven't seen a movie clip of GTA3 yet, but from people's judgement, it seems that the game is quite graphic.

I would deem GTA2 acceptable... you can't see faces, the view is high up and in general the game is pixels, not people. However, I think GTA3 might be a little over the top... at least I thought that... then I thought to myself... I'm a blatantly bias Ninty, would I mind if GTA3 was exclusive on Gamecube? Hell no... In fact I°«d probably brag about it, despite not buying or even playing it! Then I tried to put the game in it's place... not in the top 100 or anything, but in the violent games list. And you know, what - despite the game being violent, there's nothing there we haven't seen before... and at the end of the day some people will still play the game properly and not run round with a Shotgun like some but in Glasgow seeing how many pensions they can rob in 15 minutes.

I doubt if anyone who has Perfect Dark or Goldeneye can honestly say they haven't shot a guard in the knackers or Natalya in her breasts... I have... it's damn hilarious... well, for immature guys like me - :D But think about it... is this any different... this premeditated de-genital-isation (Just made that up :D) can surely be no worse than shooting someone in the groin.... and escorting a prostitute to a bar can't be much worse than watching late night Bravo with your friends when you were 13 or 14...!

As Goatboy said, people will rave about this game... go barmy and cause so much upheaval, but when you put it onto perspective, it isn't a major crime against humanity... sure the morals aren't quite in line but in the world today there are far worse things going on than some lads, not harming anyone playing a game that is more true to life that the false faces of parliament who cover up their own feelings and embarrassing attributes with a poncey pretend-to-know-it-all front.

I'm not knocking parliament, anyone or anything here, but when the wave of abuse comes, someone needs to tell these people that there are far worse things in the world that a few mature and generally smart, decent lads playing a game that probably won't affect them like the millions of other games that haven't either.

GTA3 is a violent game, and some of the ideas behind the game are sadly, true to life - but killing someone in this is no different to killing an unknowledgeble young guard with a family of 4 in Goldeneye, Red Faction or Perfect Dark.

When all is said and done, and the smoke has cleared - It's a game... some thing you P.L.A.Y! - Not an interactive manual on how to live life!

Thoughts?

If they wanna ban violent games then they would have to ban violent films, without violence in our life would we be who we are today?

I think that if a lot of parents actually saw these games in action they'd be a bit more weary... if it wasn't for the Nintendo-Mario stereotyped gaming delusion that parents are under you Playstationers wouldn't be playing right now!

You have only Nintendo to thank! :D

Bwrahahahaha!!!!!

Er....

Ok, too start with I remember when GTA was released. That caused a huge uproar and the goverment where going to ban it because of the affects that it may cause, giving the impression to youngsters that it's ok to steal cars and mow people down for the hell of it.

But now they have GTA3 and because it is a bit more graphic people feel it will have an impact? Well that is what the age certificates are there for and although they get more and more ignored and parents seem less bothered to take any notice, it is still illegal to sell games to someone below that age.

Games shouldn't affect people, they shouldn't give you an impression that selling drugs is perfectly acceptable, but they should be enjoyable and keep us happy and thats what it's doing.

If I get really really angry and I have the urge to break something, then I go and play Quake 3. It's therapy. It doesn't make me worse, it helps. Banning violent games his stupid, in my opinion.

This game is violent with a lower case v. If people want real violence, you look to the film industry, films such as Seven and True Romance are absolutely grusome when it comes to the boundaries they pushed. It is a sad fact but most of the available options in GTA3 are every day occurences in real life. I agree they are not for children, and people under the consenting age limit should not be playing this game (I know that will go down well in this forum ;). But the main point here is that the game wasn't designed for the under 18 age group.

Games developers aren't stupid, ever since the days of Carmageddon, they know that some games will be splashed with an age rating, and ELPSA also has a good go at recommending ages, even though they have no legal standing. But how many 18 rated films do you think are aimed at a young market? Seven and True Romance certainly aren't, some of the crimes commited in Seven even made me feel quite sick at first, and definately not things for mentioning here. My mum hasn't seen the film, but even on the basis of what I told her about it, my eleven year old brother would be killed if he went near it, mum says no, thats that. I do have a 16 year old brother, and he has watched it, we both agree that it is an outstanding film, but for children???

I think not.
