I got a big box in the post yesterday which had an official Drummania controller + game, and a Guitar Freaks controller in it. Woohoo! (of course I got stung by customs for VAT at £22)

To be honest I never even got as far as opening the drumkit last night - I stuck on Guitar Freaks and that was me set for the rest of the evening. Quality stuff! My pinkie finger is feeling the after effects today though.

Tonight I'll break out the drumkit for a bit of practice, and when my pals come round tomorrow we can try out the guitar/drum combo mode in Drummania. Gotta love it.

Cheers mate, I've been trying to avoid signing up for those forums because it'll just suck away more of my time when I should be working, but it seems they are too valuable to ignore :-)

I'll keep an eye out for a second guitar too - one of the pegs snapped on my pluck button, and I had to use superglue to get it to respond properly. It means I'm reluctant to let rip and really thrash it during the fast songs, in case it breaks again.

Darwock, I've seen a few of these bits on the www.ntsc-uk.com forums now and again, they have for sale and wanted forums, well worth checking out now and again for import bits new and used.

Just call me Mr Helpful.

Dredging this thread back up again, because I just got GF 3rd and DM 2nd Mix in the post today. It cost me a lot though.

The only shop I was able to find that sells it is Toys n'joys, at an extortionate price. I ordered it from them months ago, and never got it. Despite the high shipping costs they did not offer a tracking number, so I assume I was ripped off. Resorted to eBay, and bought it 2nd hand for an even higher price, plus the guy charged me $18 for shipping that only cost $5. But at least I have it now!

Before I started playing GF 2nd mix, I was unable to finish Hypnotica/Normal or Shake it Up/Expert in GF1. Now I've been on 2nd Mix for a few months, I went back to these two songs last night and got them first time! Only Hypnotica/Expert and Lucky Staff still to beat (out of the songs I've unlocked anyway)

Hopefully 3rd mix will raise the level of my game and I can pull the same trick a few weeks down the line :-)

I took a break from Drummania and now I'm scared to play it, in case I find out how rusty I've become...

Hi again! It's been a while, but I finally got myself a cd writer to get an image of guitar freaks 2nd mix. I've done a bit of research and found that I probably need a XPS patch to remove the mod code... but I can't find it anywhere! I've found one for the original guitar freaks, but that wont patch 2nd mix....

I'd really appreciate it if I could take you up on your offer to show me / mail me the patch.

You can get me on barry_pattenden at hotmail.com

Thanks v. much! If I don't get to play 2nd mix soon, I'm going to burst..

Oh yeah, you MUST play 2nd Mix. My personal favourite is this acoustic number, something-bossanova. Very chilled out. But there's a ton more songs than there were in the first game.

The only way you can play GF 2nd Mix on a PAL system is to patch the game. And that means downloading it and burning a copy. But as you have already purchased it, you can do that guilt free. It may be hard to find though, if you post a hotmail address or something I can give you some pointers.

I haven't even dared to look at Expert-Real mode in DM yet. I won't do it until I've cleared Real mode, which may never happen!

Oh yeah!
I can't believe your playing drummania on REAL mode.... That's seriously difficult.
I don't think it's possible to actually 'complete' any of these bemani games and finish ALL the songs - let alone finish them with S ratings etc.
Loads of lasting appeal.

I'm still alive! And still banging away at guitar freaks!

I recently got myself GF2nd mix too! But I can't play it! I had a similar setup to yourself - a cheat cartridge in the PS serial port - to play GF1. But when i switch the disks over I get the japanese message telling me I can't play the game :(

How did you get round this? I need to play it!

As for Gitadora... Amazing.
It has the same bum-note sounds that you mention are in the 2nd mix. It also has brilliant new songs, including real songs to play along to - Born to be Wild, Bad Medicine and some Alanis Morrisette (i think you spell it like that).
But the best thing about it is the way you can choose to play in either lead or BASS mode before you start!!!

I need to get a copy of 3rd mix now - but it seems quite rare and expensive....

Hmmm, either Tellah has died or he's so busy with Gitadora that he's never had time to post and tell us what it's like.

My latest - I have reached a sticking point in both Guitar Freaks and Drummania. There are two songs in GF Expert mode that I've yet to complete (3 if you count Lucky Staff.. and there's no doubt a few more to be unlocked) and I'm just not making any progress. Like a bad workmen blaming his tools, I think the 3rd party guitar may be causing me a problem with the fast picking sections.

As for Drummania - only four Real mode songs left to do, and I'm stuck at River Crossin'. There are a lot of sections in other songs that I won't even attempt (stick to the safe parts!), so I never get better than a C rating. This game is seriously hard!

I was getting very frustrated with both so I have moved on to GF 2nd Mix. Wow! Not only can I play the guitar parts for the DM songs I know and love, but they've improved the bum notes so it really sounds terrible if your timing is off. Many more songs too. Hopefully if I play this for a spell I can go back and beat the first game with ease :-)

Thought I'd give a wee progress update. I've worked my way through all the normal mode songs in Drummania, and can finish all of them with at least a 'C' rating except for "Across the Nightmare". I played this for the first time last night and got my a$$ handed to me. All I could do was hammer away at the cymbal and snare and hope that I got some hits in all the confusion! I downloaded the track off Kazaa to see how it should sound - OMFG! If I can manage that I'll be a happy man ;-)

Hopefully I'll have cracked it by this time next week and I can start on Real mode.

Guitar Freaks - I tend to only play this at weekends but I have now unlocked Evil Eye. Still can't finish Hypnotica on normal mode, but I'm coming close.

Last night I discovered you can turn off the backing music completely in practice and just bash away, jungle style! Superb, I felt like John Bonham :-)
