In http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/ (space) display_messages.php?threadid=77785&forumid=135 you stated that you got the extension cables from dabs.com

Could you tell me the name of the cables I need, or a link to the page.

Thanks for the help.

They have a really really good selection of Sony made guides that tell you everthing you need to know now. They can be found at the network section of the site. SR have the link to it on there Network adapter product page.

Also, FM, could you add me to hotmail if you have it please? [email protected] . I've been meanign to ask for a while.

And thirdly. I forgot all about connecting via Cable TV. I see you can still do this, but what sort of thing will I need to connect this to my PS2? Will I be better just connecting to the PC in my bedroom (Which has Cable Broadband and is networked from a central computer)?

I'd personally have taken the USB router option if I had a USB modem. More expensive but a lot easier to set up. Internet Connection Sharing is cheaper (shop around, Network Interface Cards can be as cheap as a tenner), but enabling ICS on a PC is such a pain.

If you get stuck somewhere, my advice is to nip along to the uk.playstation.com PlayStation Network Gaming forums and ask there, because if everyone who has a question about it needs advice and posts their question here... they'll need a couple of new forums to handle it. Chances are if you've got a question regarding setting up ICS or using a particular brand of NIC card the question has already been answered in those forums.

Internet Sharing Connection using USB-based modems

Connect your USB-based broadband modem to your computer via the USB port, as per the standard set up instructions.

Install a network interface card (or NIC) in your computer, if you don't have one installed already.

Using a crossover network cable, connect your PlayStation 2's Network Adaptor to your computer's network interface card.

Set up Windows' Internet Connection Sharing application. This will allow you to share your existing Internet connection with your PlayStation 2

What is a network interface card? How much and where from?

Col, if you have a USB modem you WILL need a cable to go into your PC, and that's not the same as the ones FM posted. In this case you want a CAT5 cross-over cable. (sometimes described as x-over) It looks the same but it's not! Very important!

It depends on the way you're setting up your system. If you're hooking your PS2 up directly to your cable modem then these cables are the sort you'll need if you need more than the 2m length supplied with the PS2 adaptor (they're straight through ethernet cables).

Nope, the simplest PS2 setup is direct connection. The easiest way of describing this is you take the lead going from your cable modem to your PC out of your PC and plug it into the PS2 network adaptor. If you've got an ADSL or USB modem with a USB connector then check the Network Gaming Guides on uk.playstation.com to make sure that you can actually direct connect.

Both the same, just different lengths. One goes from my router to my PC, the other goes from my router to the laptop downstairs, the 2m length supplied with the PS2 adaptor goes from my router to the PS2.
