AdAware doesn't run in the background so it can't slow things down.

You do a scan once you install something and leave it.

Um, no.

Nobody ever gets connected at 56k anyway, I used to always get connected at 46.6k.

That's about a maximum of 5.8kb/s on a PERFECT line with a perfect conection to the server.

Adware itself slows things down and makes systems unstable Ive found.

That is sooooo wrong whenever ive been using 56k to download the multiple connectivity that you mention helps things along nicely... Sort of like parallel downloading as opposed to serial if you only have one download source

Also on dial up connections the speed is deliberately limited to reduce the build up of heat in the wires, <--how cool is that?

At least if you get one, get AdAware too to kill the spyware off.

They're great for pausing files, but that's about it. Oh, and setting up multiple connections with a server to download the file in several pieces. That helps speed it up, but not on a 56k modem.
