Does anybody here own a Maxx pc?

Basically being quite open considering i'm on SR ;) I am half and half between a Maxx Pc or a Dell Pc. The only pointer moving me away from the dell is the slightly higher pricing I suppose...So has anyone on here got a maxx pc and how has it been?

I am also half and half on the Athlon 1400 or the P4 1500. Not sure which is the best choice.

I would build my own pc but 1) I can't be bothered 2) I don't get trade price anymore. Unless someone can persuade me otherwise :)

I am also interested in the officejet and am wondering how good that is?

All info very welcome :)

Also, I don't know much about Athlon processors, i've always been an Intel buyer. What is a good motherboard for the Athlon-XP 1700?

So what graphics card is the best choice right now.

I have definitely ruled Dell out, due to the high price lol

I have no problem building my own pc as it is a piece of cake, i did the job for 2 years. But even with the knowledge I have i would much rather have a warranty in case the pc buggers up rather than having to waste my own social time fixing it ;)

Mm, very nice..but the GF2MX really doesn't do the rest of the system justice, as with most things, a gaming system is only as good as its weakest link..

Depends on your case. The one supplied with the current MAXX P4 range is the Evercase ECE4204S, which already had mounts for the 2 fan I added.

I got my fans from another company, who I won't advertise, because SR's photos/description/catalogue didn't give enough detail of what I was buying.

If you want to know what I got to cool the machine, mail me at [email protected] and I'll give you more info.

Lots of cases now come with one spare 80mm grill in the back with holes already drilled, so you can just screw any 80mm fan directly on to there. If you want to add more (either as blowholes or installed in the side panels) then yes, you'll need to cut your own - either with a dremel or a holesaw. You can download templates from the web for various sizes, use these to cut around, and drill 4 small holes for the screws.

Fans that slide in to 5.25" bays are usually designed for hard drive cooling. I recently ordered a Coolermaster Cooldrive, and it has cooled the hdd significantly, but it was more of a precaution than anything. Unless you have a high speed drive in very regular use, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Also depends on the rating of the fans - most are 3x 40mm, blowing around 24cfm, anything thereabouts should be fine.

Would I have to drill holes into my case for extra fans? are the fans you get for the cd racks worth getting?

Yeah, good call, I've had to buy a more powerful PSU to accomodate all the fans and mods in here now...aiming for a sub-20C ambient temperature..

Well, the Intel software is set to alert you at 70C for the processor zone, and 50C for "System Zone 1" and "System Zone 2" - though the manual doesn't tell you exactly where those 2 zones are.

The processor was regularly exceeding 70C (highest I saw it at was 81C) and the others frequently reached high 50's/low 60's.

I'm sure something would have failed eventually had I not installed the extra fans.

Wookiee, what sort of temps was it reaching? I'm happy with my processor the moment, overclocked by about 25% and it still only runs at 35C, but my GF3 regularly hits 60C, I haven't logged yet but I'd hate to see it during some intensive benchmarking. Could do with a temperature probe, might get a Digidoc or suchlike..

i'd recommend building your own pc, i've only just started building my first one, but there are lots of reasons for doing it: you know what you have and how to access it if something goes wrong, you know what will need upgrading and where to get it from (if you buy everything yourself) it's great knowledge. yes, you'd save yourself some money, but only enough to get some free componants.
Anyway, the choice is yours.

The coolest ISP ever!
In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
Thanks!
Thank you for dealing with this so promptly it's nice having a service provider that offers a good service, rare to find nowadays.
