I remember reading an article a while back saying just how useful those USB ports are, they allow lots of devices to be connected such as mice, keyboards, modems, cameras, steering wheels,g-cons and of course CONTROLLERS.
The article then went on about how EASY it would be to have the dual shock linked through the USB port, so think about it 2 standard controllers as normal then 2 USB controllers plugged in the USB ports, bingo, hey presto we've hit the jackpot, wayhey, woohoo you get the picture,no more multitap.
Of course the game would have to support it but are Sony just cashing in on the multitap or don't they have any sense?
res
4 DC pads + 1 rumble packs is 4x£20 + 4x£16 = £144
(these are SR's prices)
Now who really has the better deal?
>Sonty
hahaha

Ah, but how much harder would it be it be to make a ship that could be controlled by PSX games as though it were simply connected to a multitap? Not very... especially considering that Sony have such a large company!
The fact is that Sony did this for 2 reasons:
1) Keep the same chip production line. Although, Sonty has more than enough money to spend on upgrading facilities.
2) Make money by selling multi taps.
If Sony were really so bothered about revolutionising the way games are developed on the console, then why couldn't they put that much effort into something so simple as four controllers? Sad really
The fact is that it would be extremely easy to have four ports. I could probably make a crude one by taking apart a PS2, and then shoving a multitap (minus the casing) into one of the controller ports.
With mass production, and no need for many of the interfaces that the Multitap uses to link with the console, the unit could still have been employed.
