On the back of SOCOM it say's something that implies that in the future they may start charging people to play! uh-oh.

Which raises my second point, I am a MASSIVE Final Fantasy fan and it hurts me to say i womt be getting FFXI, but pay to play is stupid!

You watch. It will get popular and then the charge will magically appear becuase of running costs.

If you expect me to pay £6 a month or £72 a year just to play ONE game online, you've got another thing coming!

This is the reason why console gaming isn't goona be that good at the moment, you've gotta pay to play. As soon as they can do what has happened with most PC games and allow different people to host games people are gonna find themselves with some big charges.

£72 a year!?!?

I could buy 2 offline console games with that, or 3 good PC games!

They take 90% of the general public as mugs, and 99% of the public fall for it...

You didn't seriously expect there never to be a charge did you?

Think of all the setup costs that have gone into and are ongoing to get this whole online experience working, all the servers, all the comms equipment etc etc all costs big bucks and someone somewhere is going to have to pickup the costs.

Yep you guessed it....it'll be the paying public in the end.

Remember these are businesses who are out to make money and report profits back to their shareholders.

I would guess that's just to cover themselves. There may come a time in the future when everyone is bored of SOCOM, and only a few people still want to play it. In which case Sony might be faced with the choice of shutting it down or charging a fee. Nobody can play the same game forever, so who cares. It's no big deal.
