On the back of SOCOM it say's something that implies that in the future they may start charging people to play! uh-oh.

Which raises my second point, I am a MASSIVE Final Fantasy fan and it hurts me to say i womt be getting FFXI, but pay to play is stupid!

X-box. But mainly because Sony haven't told anyone that they can go online, and there is still only one AAA title for the PS2 NA.

Well, X-box have a yearly fee and Sony don't, who you think will have more online gamers in two months time?

Err...isn't that exactly what I said?

It IS all about money at the end of the day, they (the companies) do NOT give a damn about whether you argue about paying for online gaming.

If you want to play you pay, if you don't want to pay then that's your choice but they have to show a profit and the bigger the better that's shown to the shareholders then ...... arrrrggghhh why bother explaining it.

I can see this being interesting.

One company or another will try to charge and they'll all follow. It's all about the money.

Yeah, but SEGA didn't charge for games then.

Look at PSO now...

It's a matter of time.

You're all doomed.

They sold over 1 million copies of SOCOM in the US. That's around $50-$60 million. Whatever the developer's slice of that was, I'm pretty sure they can afford to have someone reboot the SOCOM servers once a week or so without having to charge for it.

Yea maybe, but then again, look at Phantasy star online on the dreamcast (i know the servers are being shutdown but still) that was never pay to play

Personally i think Sony will inroduce a £40 a year online fee. but even that would suck!

I've got a strange feeling that this is a nasty way to catch people out.

The game starts free, as more and more people sign up, they'll introduce the charge, on this game or on future games. People have paid loads to get online so they may as well make the most of it.

They're not gonna let you have more fun for free, if a company can get money out of you. They will and that small print is telling you that either this game or future games are gonna be pay to play.
