Shigeru Miyamoto is the George Lucas of video games.

If not, Shigeru Miyamoto is a god to video games.

In my opinion and many others he is certainly that, creating titles that remain unequal within the gaming world.
In the Past to present day, his conceptual advances are giant leaps for game theory.
Early innovations like the scrolling screen helped Nintendo to break from the rigid single-screen arcade mode and introduced new ideas of space.
Building on that foundation, Super Mario Brothers was one of the first games that gave players a world to experience and a lot of fun to boot.
Essentially then he IS the father of modern console gaming. In the pantheon of game designers, he reigns supreme. He has created the most memorable titles in video game history and is responsible for some of the most recognizable characters in the world, now who would argue with that?
His inspiration as he always states lies in his past childhood, reminiscent of a Mario or Link exploring depths and caves. That Miyamoto's games are adventures would come as no surprise then would they?. But as trivial and weird as it may seem, this was the fuel behind his ideas and the advancement of the multi company gaming empire.

Why?

In the world of computer games. The small Japanese man created several of the most popular and trend-setting titles in video-game history, including "Donkey Kong" ,"Super Mario Bros." and "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time".
These games where HUGE crowd pullers, in a collection of wonderous titles crafted by him as well, but not on the same scale.
These games were key to Nintendo becoming a leading producer of video games, making for a lively competition with archrival Sony.
Regardless of the statistics of Nintendo games or the popularity within the older market, the original "Mario" game and its sequels alone have sold more than 140 million units!, now what about that?!!.
In my opinion the man is a genius and a huge inspiration to many within the gaming world, to many he is a hero and some would argue with this but, he is the saviour within the gaming world and the driving force regardless of the company.

Miyamoto remains a perfectionist, always has and always will be.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, you're right. They can't be properly compared over which one's better.

I suppose that ones that lasted longer and made a bigger impact got the higher rating.

Read my topic anyway. You should find it interesting.
It was done about a week ago so it shouldn't be hard to find.

It explains very well.

The problem with such charts is that it is impossible to compare many games!

How could you ever say that Goldeneye is better than NiGHTS!- possibly the most original game of the last 5 years. You can't! One is a semi-realistic shooting game, and the other is a fantasy flying adventure!

Goldeneye is definately one of the best games of all time.

If you compare it to modern FPS game then there's nothing that stands out but you look at what the genre was like back when it was released and you realise how much it revolutionised the FPS.

It introduced stealth, sniping, 4 player splitscreen, it had graphics that made the best PC games at the time look awful, it had detailed AI and introduced damage depending on where you shot them. It introduced the "head shot".

For the ultimate run down on why Goldeneye is up there with Zelda and Mario 64 (In my opinion at the top), see my topic called the Perfect Game.

It explains very well.

Well, they usually do that kind of thing in good games mags...

I think EDGE had the most unbiased one (they also had a memory longer than years, and realise that gaming existed before the Playstation).

N64 games came 1, 2 and 3! Zelda, Goldeneye and Mario 64. (This was 1.5 years ago). You can see how zelda and mario 64 got there- both bencharks in their genre, with Mario being the first proper 3d game ever. (ie it was the first game to exploit 3d as more than just a place to stick more graphics)... buit goldeneye as one of the best games of all time????!?!?!?!?

Sonic 3 best 2D Platform ever? Pah!!!
Donkey Kong Country Best 2D Platform ever? Pah again!!!

I'll tell you what is though, Super Mario World or equally Yoshi's Island.
Even look at all-time top 100 Games charts to see that much.

ah you've got a point about no danger, I suppose driving at break neck speeds doesn't have that spark that it has in real life.

Burnout makes up for it though ;-)
