Speedball is being updated.
This is quite possibly the finest game ever made, and itís being updated with online play capabilities for the PC (might be other formats as well, I donít really care).
If you have never played this game, then you should be ashamed that you are so young as to miss out on the finest video-game experience ever.
This was before we called them video-games, they were known as ìComputer Gamesî and you could eat things like Spangles and Chewitts whilst you waited.
It was on the Amiga and rocked big time.
Whatís it about?
Two teams in an arena.
The metal-ball comes out and you have to punch, kick, shoot, bomb the other team until you can score by slamming into the hole/goal.
Imagine American Football without the nancy protective gear and bombs or chainsaws.
Occasionally you could cripple a player enough that he was carted off by robots with the cry of ìIce CreamÖIce Creamî as the prone body was spirited away.
For every match you won, you earned money to spend on improving players abilities, thus making them even more psychopathic and blood-thirsty.
There were leagues, championships and a two-player mode where you could trounce your mate and dance like a bear when you killed his best players.
Excellent.
And itís being updated and polished.
You should be moist at the prospect of playing this legend in two-player sports-related violence.

The add-ons like extra armour, aggression levels, glasses, harder gloves...and the beefiest, gnarliest players ever.
They transfered a couple to "Chaos Engine" when that came out.
Man, hearing about Speedball being redone has made my day.

GB, did you ever load up a new game, and then have the first match set as super nashwan, so youd reset it, hoping for revolver?
The trick i found was that if you play nashwan first, and spend the match running around getting the money, you only had to play them once again...

There were power-ups you could grab like "Ball Hard", and if you threw it at people it bowled them over instead of them catching it.
The goalies could be frozen etc etc.
Speedball is a damn classic, and granted it's a year away yet but we've all been drooling at MGS2.
This one appeals much more to me, and go check the website.

Yeah I remember this game, can't remember too much though apart from the violence and the strange calls of Ice Cream. That always stuck in my head.

Speedball was truely one of the best, most playable games ever! I have spent more of my life playing that than any other game! I even played it a few months ago on the Megadrive, and it's still great!

This has all already hapend!!! Rage [ a little known developer] created incoming, expandable and another game. Savage Arena. I happen to have this game and yes goatboy for once you are right. This IS a class game with blood spaterin', vomit throwin' and chain-sawin' people who will stop at nothing to score a precius point. Welcome to the Arena. IN this game anything goes and anything DOES go. All you sissies will probably be at the option screen turning off weapens, vomit and blood before its said "boo!" unfortunatly nobody seems to know it so it wasn't a sucess. Pity. the prospect of another is probably gonna be one of the bigger succeses of "speedball" and obviously dont be suprise if RAGE are making it. Theyr the only one sickest enough to do it. ENJOY!!!
