Well, some would say it's no more important than any other game garunteed a lot of sales. Its nothing special, its YET ANOTHER sequel game on the black box of no originality.
Others may say, its maybe not for me but it is important for the PS2 as it will be the first game to offer on-line play and if its succesful, it could pave the way for many more on-line games. Yes, we are all expecting on-line deathmatches on various PS2 FPSs and on-line RPGs as soon as the hardware hits the PS2. But THPS3 is going to be a bit more of a social experience for the on-line gamer, it won't be without its competetive side, but you will be able to "meet up with friends" down at the skate park, without leaving your chair. Hopefully, this kind of social on-line gaming could help other games from other genres go on-line when before they wouldn't really have bothered.
Then there are those who would say, who cares about the on-line side of things - the modem isn't out for a year. Tony Hawks 3 is the game I bought my PS2 for! More tricks, new skaters, new parks, even more depth than the copy of THPS2 that I'm still playing regularly!!!
I would personally fall into that last category. I am currently riding the despair train that is the world of unemployment. No-one wants to give me a job, so try as I might, my days are doomed to be long and boring.
THPS3 WILL change all that, I've been a huge fan of skating for years, I remember getting very excited because Tony Hawk made an appearance in Police Academy 3!
I couldn't believe how good Tony Hawks 1 was, I further couldn't believe how much better THPS2 was and after hearing these words:-
"put a skater in front of this then watch him scrabble about on the floor looking for his jaw" from PSW on the topic of the third installment, my hands now sweat regularly in anticipation.
Am I putting too much hope into THPS3, well probably. But I've been waiting for this game for about 8 months and that has felt like about 8 years. I feel like a child at christmas, this game has got me stupidly excited and I actually can't wait to buy it! I'm unemployed and I can't wait to part with money! I imagine only a few of you older guys will know the feeling. Its very strange to have a computer game at the top of your list of priorites but hey...
So, how important is THPS3 to you, and why?
Secondly the series on the PS were very addicticve and hardly had any serious faults. THPS3 is going to better that too. The introduction of the new trick system is also a cool feature. You can now link loads of tricks for even bigger combos.
Add a revamped career mode and more multi player options and you have a fantastic game in front of you....
It will be a great title.
It has everything a great game needs. Ignore the graphics. Concentrate on gameplay. Only with this game, you get both. The nature of the first two games was very addictive, and I have no reason to doubt the third will be any different.
Tarrant is right about the online play though. Although I though that the modem was out next spring time? So only 6 months to go.
Tony Hawks could spark off a wave of online titles for the PS2. Let's just hope....
