I figure loads of the current controllers have too few buttons, leading to a necessity to press several buttons with one thumb and limited control functionality. This is clearly unacceptable. Thus, my pad will have, in place of the four circle-cross-square-triangle buttons, sixteen different buttons each marked with a different shape. Possibly octagons, decahedrons, nonagons, heptahedrons, rhomboids and the like. Also, instead of R1, R2, L1, and L2, there will be R1,R2,R3,and R4, and the same on the left side. Where your ring and little fingers would normally rest will be two more buttons on each side (one for each finger). Also, the directional pad will be surrounded by four ìshiftî buttons, as well as a hat switch capable of being set to 8 different positions or modes. So, with the hat switch, a single shift button and one other button, a total of 1056 key presses are possible. Clearly enough for the most demanding of games, and you wonít have to press any more than one button with each thumb.
As for analogue joystick-things, instead of the usual 2 there will be 6, three down each inner side of the controller. There will also be a laptop-esque touchpad to operate the cursor on screen. Each controller will be equipped with 4 gigs of hard drive for save games and the like, and be totally cordless, as well as including an LCD tv screen on the front for displaying miscellaneous data (dreamcast stylie, only better) and can be turned over and opened up to reveal a text messaging facility. There are suggestions from some quarters to include an MP3 function, be we donít want to get ridiculous now do we?
Whaddya think?
