We know there is always conflict between Trekkies and, erm, what's the name, Warsies? I mean Star Wars, obviously. Being a fan of Star Wars, I would say that Star Wars rules, but then agin, I'm biased. So let's have a discussion on this matter. Several categories arise that I think must be answered, and I'll try to be fair.

1st: Super-weapons.
' Borg-Cube Vs Death Star'.

I would move for no contest here. From my viewing of Trek, Borg Cubes are the most powerful thing they have. They cut through an entire section of the Enterprise, I recall. But then the Death Star can destroy planets, so what's it problem with destroying a hunk of floating metal that looks about as good as Richard Branson's beard? Easy win for Vader's little pet, I think.

1-0 Star Wars

2nd: Most beautiful woman.
' Seven of Nine Vs Princess Leia'.

Mmmm. Close contest. But I'd have to go for the Princess. She's far more revealing. When do you ever see Seven in a gold bikini? I realise these days Carry Fisher's no prize, but back in her day she was the fittest woman in Hollywood for sure. Plus Seven of Nine seems to have metal poking out of her! What's that about? Yes, I know...but it annoys me. I would feel like asking, whats up with the face?, or perhaps something less American.

2-0 Star Wars

3rd: Technology
'Replicators and transporters Vs dodgy hyperdrives

I think Star Trek wins hands down here. Look at the stuff they've got. I wouldn't mind getting me a replicator. Dixons should start selling them. And transporters, well, I wouldn't have to get up so early for school, for one thing. Plus three hour drives to relatives in Swansea wouldn't be so boring and devoid of fun. In contrast to this, Star Wars has the Millenium Falcon's spring collection - A bucket of rusty bolts with a dodgy hyperdrive. Hmm, well, the Trekkies get off the mark.

2-1 Star Wars

4th: Aliens
'Wookiees and Hutts Vs Klingons and Vulcans'

I think Wookiees rule as the ultimate sci-fi aliens. They have the best roar, are covered in hair, rip peoples arms out and Chewie runs around with some sort of laser crossbow. That's a cool weapon, whereas Klingons have some sort of double-ended fork and have a serious forehead problem. Yes, I know it's a ceremonial weapon created by Kahless *cheers Trekkie friend*. Hutts now, I find cool. Jabba for example - He keeps a big rancor as a pet and hires Boba Fett, who is one of the best characters in film. Vulcans on the other hand are overwhelmingly boring.
' No, its not logical'.
Who gives? Lots of good things aren't logical, Mr Pointy Ears man.

3-1 Star Wars

5th: Spaceships.
'Enterprise and Voyager Vs X-Wings and Millenium Falcon'.

This is a really close call. X-Wings are my favourite small attack craft. Deploying S-Foils into attack position looks cool, and it means you get a decent mass shot of X-Wings. The Millenium Falcon may be a bucket of bolts, but it looks cool and the scene where it's hyperdrive engages and they shoot off is a longstanding memorable image of Star Wars. But the Enterprise is a great starship. I prefered the one with Jean-Luc Picard in, because it's phasers looked great and it died really well. Add in a great crew and you're onto a winner. Plus its much much bigger! Size matters ;-)
Voyager is also fun, especially in the last episode, where it gets loads of armour. I wish my car had that.
'Deploy armour', and sheets of molten armour deploy over the car. Ignore the fact that the windscreen is now covered up, and it's the ultimate. So I think I'll have to narrowly call it in favour of Star Trek.

FINAL VERDICT: 3-2 Star Wars.

Yeah, my objective reasoning has proved what everyone already knows, that Star Wars rules all. I hope you are all pleased with the result. Now we just need William Shatner and Harrison Fors to fight in a battle of captains are we're set.

Hmmm, maybe.

Mr Worf, have the Klingons stolen the mangetouts?

*Worf bangs hands on table*

Yes Captain! I recommend full..

*Blad guy holds up hand*

Make me chicken stir-fry then. Bamboo shoot, please. Make it so.

Ah, but that's one computer interfacing with another! Nothing unusual, and perfectly acceptable... unlike the deflector array!

I bet the deflector dish also makes a damn good, if slightly over-sized, wok.

Ah, but in Star Wars, everything seems to be solved by plugging doughty old R2-D2 into a computer socket. This includes:

Locating the tractor beam controls
Opening doors
Stopping rubbish bin compressors
Breaking into bunkers
Releasing a cloud of smoke onto stormtroopers
Locating an enslaved princess
Getting a Naboo starfighter off autopilot.

I'm sure there's more, but R2 always saves the day, for some reason. Ah, and a god thing would be:

Melt C3-PO

Wouldn't that be a good idea!

'Oh, Master Luke, I seem to have got myself in a slight conundrum. R2-D2, what do you mean I'm melting?'

Slightly camp bit as Anthony Daniels waves his arms about

'Oh no! Help me R2-D2, you infernal...'

You can solve any problem in the Star Trek universe by passing something-or-other through the front deflector array, applying phase modulation and narrowing the resulting beam. Any fool knows that.

Any person in the real world who manages to invent the deflector array will be the saviour of mankind.

"Mr. LaForge, how can we solve the crisis in Afghanistan?"

"Well captain, we can't be sure it'll work, but maybe if we put some grain in a blender, along with a photon torpedo and some antimatter from the warp drive, then pass it through the front deflector while applying just the right amount of phase modulation, we can eliminate the Taliban while feeding every single member of the Afghan civilian population for the next ten years."

"Jolly good, Mr. LaForge. Make it so."

If you want. I'll give you one pair for the FAD. They only cost me 6 or 7 quid. A FAD can cost up to 25.

It's a deal.

Ah, the old argument of Trek Vs Wars. Before i start my blabbering i will tell you that if i had to choose between Star Trek & Star Wars at a pinch it would have to be Star Wars as it`s the novie that blew me away back in 1977 at a tender age of 3 and started me on the rollercoaster of sci-fi.
But Star Trek seems to get a hard time of it, and i don`t know why because it offers it`s own style of sci-fi as does Star Wars, but Trek has always had that nerd label stamped on it, which doesn`t seem fair.......and this is someone who likes Star Wars more but laso likes Trek as well.
So in the fashion that Stryke posted orginally i`ll show the differences and tell you why both are good and each one betters in some instances.

1. Super-weapons

I have to agree with Stryke there, Death-Star is the biggest bad boy and nothing has come up to that sheer power & size in Star Trek.

1-0 to Star Wars

2. Babefactor

Now don`t get me wrong, i too like millions of other males had a crush on Princess Leia and if you asked a 100 blokes of the age between 25 & 35 to raise their hand if they didn`t have a crush on Princess Leia at sometime i bet none of them raise their hand......or very few. Plus Natalie Portman will have started the cycle again with the new genration of Star Wars fans.
But in Star Trek there was alot more of the fairer sex such as:

7 of 9
Jadzia Dax
Izri Dax
Deanna Troi
Bev Crusher
Kira
Urhura
Belanna
And Janeaway (yes you would)
A host of other`s and not forgetting all of Captain Kirk`s female Aliens the pooer guy had to meet and snog for universal peace.

So 1-1 Trek has more babes.

3. Technology

Stryke again is right, Star Trek has more gadgets even though when they break down theres usually a way around by re-alligning some thing with another, which is why the new Series Enterprise will i think be a much more of a favourite with fans as the technology is new and breaks frequently.

2-1 Trek

4. Aliens

Star Trek has lots of aliens, but they tend to be all humanoid types wiht just bits stuck onto there heads or whatever, where as Star Wars has more outrageous aliens and more variety.

2-2 a tie so far

5. Spaceships

Star Wars has the most memorable ships, who can forget the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy? and all the ships look worn in and used.
Star Trek has more variety and they look all shiny and new and have alot more weaponary and some cool gadgets.

So i think a tie for spaceships, Star Wars has less variety of ships but are more memorable and actually look like they have been used where as Star Trek has more kinds, from Starships to shuttles and others and they seem to have a better arsenal.

The end result 3-3........a tie, which i think fairly sums up both, they both have their own style to offer. Star Trek has had more to show because of the TV series and films (which only The Wrath of Khan & First Contact Stand out)And Star Wars has the 4 current films......eventually 6 or more.

Star Wars will always edge out the winner for me because it got me not only into Sci-fi but movies as well, but there will be some people that would say the same thing for Star Trek, that when they first saw it back in the 60`s it`s what got them into Sci-fi.

with the technology in trek its always too convienient how they use it to get out of trouble
"lets use an inverse .... field with modulated .... on a rotating cycle......."
if it was that easy to come up with an idea to trigger some phenomena that until 30 minutes ago in the episode had never been seen before then why did it take so long for voyager to get home?
In starwars the technology is about as reliable as it is in real life ie hyperdrives that take time to program the co-ordinates (or else crash into something) or star treks go to warp 6.7 and almost instantaneously the are off.

Anyway I would give that one to SW because they have lightsabres (I can't remember the last time I saw a tractor beam being used on trek)
