Cheers Mr. Coates and humpo - all sorted now!
In my eagerness to get it working, I'd not followed the instructions on the Region X website fully. Now I have, it works a treat, with the 2.10 drivers.
You're absolutely right about the version Region X displays, Mr. Coates - this obviously indicates the on-board version of the driver, and not the updated one. (Incidentally, mine is a launch PS2 and the version on-board is 1.20E)
Have to say, though, that it's a pretty poor show by Datel that you get no instructions with the DVD Region X.
Now... if only I can stop my dedicated Sony DVP-S725D player from switching on when I press Play on the PS2 remote... :-)

Not a problem fella!
Get over to the dvdregionx page and follow the instructions (TO THE LETTER).
You've probably noticed that there is a version number in the top right when reg x boots up (probably 1.30e).
Enter the codes for the 2.10 euro remote as per instructions and reg x WILL work (I've done it).
You'll notice however that the reg x version number won't update despite you having done it.
I've consulted datel about this and it's been confirmed that reg x will still display 1.30 despite ACTUALLY being 2.10.

yes it does
head on over to
http://www.dvdregionx.com/english/x_key_codes.htm
then enter the codes for euro remote v2.10 as described in the manual you "dont" get
viola

yes it does
I know for a fact that the joytech remote does not work with the Sony receiver unit.
It's worth getting the updated driver and although I can't confirm it right now, I'm sure that there was a pic of the Dual Shock pad in the remote manual (which made me think that you can access the 2.10 features with the joypad too).

i think, ( but i might be wrong )the supplied disc will update features only available on the official remote anyway...so unless you have the official remote, the v2.10 dvd drivers are useless
