Simple really.

Which of these two is your favourite actor, and which is the best film you think they've each done.

Choices:

Al Pacino, or Robert De Niro?

I've never seen the Firm. Whenever it's on TV I always mean to watch it but I never do. I just always forget.

Fair, I can't really argue with tht top 3.

I was hoping it would be crap so I could ridicule you, like you do to me for not liking HEAT. :-)

Hackman is in The Firm, if I remember rightly. Does a good job too....

Well number 1 is without doubt De Niro.

Then I think it's possibly Al Pacino or Jude Law. Jude Law definitely isn't as good an actor as Pacino but I still really like him.

And number 3 is probably either Gene Hackman or Jack Nicholson. Probably Hackman though.

Yeah, the one with him fixing the telly is the one I was thinking of. I've got the Raging Bull DVD (courtesy of a FAD win from SR - much appriciated!), and there's a bonus disc with all the extras, and that whole scene with the telly wasn't scripted.

Scorcese had so much faith in De Niro and Pesci, that he let them improvise the whole scene.

That's why I rate De Niro btter than Pacino. Don't get me wrong, Pacino is a fantastic actor, and he's done some great films, but I just don't think he can get "into" the character enough to improvise a whole scene like De Niro can.

Votty, who would your top 3 actors be then?

I havn't seen Raging Bull in ages. I have it on video but I havn't watched it in quite a while.

I seem to remember most of the scenes with De Niro and Pesci in are brilliant though. The one where De Niro is trying to fix the TV is great.

I don't know, to be honest.

Both De Niro and Pacino would be in the top 3, as for the third.... I don't know. I really don't have a clue.

I watched Raging Bull this weekend, and that just confirmed to me that De Niro is a better actor than Pacino. I can't believe that for about half of Raging Bull, De Niro is ad-libbing. Most of the scenes with him and Pesci are unscripted.

Heat is my favourite film and second is probably Gattaca. I dunno about a third but I may have to go with Glengarry Glenross.

Goodfellas and Casino are both quality films but I prefer Carlito's Way, Donnie Brasco and The Untouchables to both of them.

YH, who is your favourite actor (or top 3)?

:)

Votty, 3 of my top 5 all time favourite films would be, in no particular order:

Goodfellas, Casino and The Firm (possibly the only good film Tom Cruise has done?).

What are yours?
