Not sure about the colour of petrol, though - always assumed it was a sort of translucent green ...

That's oil...
Nah, petrol is clear/yellow, yet you do get a colour called 'Petrol Blue' which is a light greeny/blue colour, but I am not sure why they call it 'Petrol'.

Oil is clear when you put it into a car. Its only black when it comes out.
