That was Gohan when he was five and couldn't fight properly (if I remember rightly, he loses it in the fight against Napper).
It wasn't until after training with his Dad that he could fight without unleashing his hidden power.

Surely all versions are identical (apart from a scene involving a naked Gohan and some blood being removed from earlier screenings ). Better animation? What a load of tosh! I'm assuming you are purely on the wind up again, which is fair enough - but I can tell all you worried DBZ fans out there that despite what Mr. Turbonutter will tell you the only difference in the spanish version is that it in spanish
