OK, so everyone always goes on about how Shigsy oozes originality, but does he really? From what I can see, he's made virtually nothing but platformers and platformer sequels all his life.
Also, is Nintenod really more original than Sony overall, because from what I can see the GameCube is going to be nothing but sequels, save the odd one-off like Pikmin and Super Monkey Ball (developed by Sega, though). Currently there are loads of original games on the PS2, and don't give me all that "The Ps2's been out longer" bullcrap, it's Nintendo's fault for being late.

HA! That's rich! The point of this topic was to stop Nintys from saying that!
> And how many people have HEARD of most of these games?
I've heard of all of them because I read about them every month in the Official PS2 Mag.
Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most highly acclaimed game designers in the history of erm.... gaming!
Yes, he makes platformers. Yes, they are full of original ideas. no they are not a new genre.
If you think about it, what genres do we have? Platform, RPG, FPS puzzle, etc.
In each of the genres, we can have a maximum of 10 games that can be classed as 'original'. Any further than that, they are just the same ideas with new plots or characters.
And I'd say Miyamoto probably has made at least 7 of those 10 original games. I'd give Sega the other 3.
That's at the moment, but I'm pretty sure we won't see many new original games coming out any time soon.
So, by original do you mean a completely new genre? Not going to happen.
So, by original do you mean new characters or levels etc? In that case over 90% of all games are 'original'
So, by original do you mean completely new ideas? In that case few games are original, and I'll hazard a guess that they are all made by Nintendo, Sega, and other companies that came before Sony.
You see, Nintendo and Sega came first. There is only so much original marerial that can be used in games. All the genres had at least 5 'original' games in them.
So, Sony come along. What are they faced with? A lot of original games, spanning a lot of original genres.
So, how do they size up the situation? They stick in a bit more blood, slap on a label saying '15', and call their console the Playstation, and automatically aim it at 'mature' gamers.
But what games come from this? Well, Sony were a huge company making lots of money, and having lots of experience in electronics. So, they can make a technically sound console. They can use their money on wide-scale advertising. And, they can captivate a new audience by adding blood and a 15 sticker to already existing games.
What's original about that? Nothing. Sony 'bought' third party developers because they could not make games themselves. These third party developrs were told 'Make out games matrure' so they took Nintendo and Sega's games, and made them 'mature'; not creating any original games.
Sony were only successful because of their money. Not their games.
Without that money, they would have come in and out of the market in a month, with their sub-standard, low quality, non-original 'mature' games.
You think I've been ranting?
Well, you'd be wrong. I'm not dissing Sony at all!
I fairly recently bought a PS2, and am very happy with it. You see, I am a Ninty at heart, because I love playing their original games. Yet I also like Sony, BECAUSE their un-original games are still good fun.
You don't need originality to make a good game!
But I am sick of Sonyphiles moaning about originality!
SONY ARE NOT ORIGINAL
NINTENDO ARE ORIGINAL
BOTH MAKE GOOD GAMES!

That is, without going to a website listing all PS2 games, and picking out the few that don't say '2' on the end?
