i'd say that you'll have to spend at LEAST 250 quid for something that can run comfortably.
if you live in central warwickshire then by all means go to www.eclipse-computers.com, as they are THE cheapest you'll find.
my Gigabyte triton KT400 runs 8x AGP (which you'll need) , K7 CPU chips (AMD athlon / XP /durons) , and up to PC3200 RAM, (but you wont need it for a while), and i got a Athlon XP2100+ with 512MB DDR and cooler fan for 185 quid.

then you need around 1120 quid for an FX5600 or Radeon 9600.

i guess that comes at 300 quid. but it's a decent pack.

of course, you don't need to take that......

If you're going to do all this yourself you'll want to bear in mind that you'll need some thermal paste stuff. Can't remember the name of it.
It will probably come with the CPU, but check up on that just in case.

550MHz proccessor?

In that case it will be the first thing that needs an upgrade, i think min spec for doom 3 (should be about equal to half life 2) is something like a 1 gig. You could pic one of those up fairly cheaply, but you should probably go a bit more overboard, maybe going for an AMD XP 1800+. It costs about £40 and should give you more life than a 1 gig chip.

Do you know How much RAM you have? And how powerful your GFX card is?
