China was bad for that, everyone would try and speak English to you and show off their skills, had no chance to practice your Chinese skills

Yes it can be quite fun. My girlfriend's brother he can speak 4 languages. she said one time while they were in a cafe he was speaking to 4 friends and all in different languages LOL. I think they were English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien.

Yes I know what you mean it helps a lot. I havent been to Germany yet but I'm hoping to go soon. Or perhaps to Austria.

I get that question a lot, I guess it seems like a waste of time, that if I concentrated on just one or two I would be fluent. But I'm just one of those people who's keen on learning anything and everything. I think most people will find that they already know several words or phrases in other languages already thanks to the magic of TV and movies :) I just took that one step further. I doubt I'll be fluent in all of them, but to be able to just understand a little is amazing.
Yes I think if I was fluent in all or just some of them I would be worth a lot. Some languages are easier than others and some closer to others. Like Spanish and Portuguese are quite similiar. German and Dutch, I think most people in Holland can speak English, German, Dutch and maybe even a little French.
One problem about going to a country to learn a language especially Holland is that they may be more interested showing you their English skills than letting you test your language. Except maybe some of the countries where English isn't so popular. Like Japan, they're terrible at learning languages in school.
Why are you learning 9 languages?
With nine languages and being fluent you could make a job of being a translater for massive companies.
