That's pretty much the stark reality of the PS2's life. It's going on for a year next month and so far there are literally only a few games that I would consider are absolutely essential purchases.
Gran Turismo 3 is without question a magnificent title despite some calling it 'short of what I expected'. SSX is another title that is testament to what the PS2 can do and let's not forget that it was there at the console's release either.
What's there apart from that though? Tekken Tag is good but not as good as hoped for. Crazy Taxi - a game that sold like mad on the Dreamcast resulted in a poor conversion that left the DC version looking better. Red Faction is a great game but visually a little dull with glitchy AI.
ISS was a disappointment and even the recently released Extreme G 3 (which I love) is capable of more.
Saying that though there are several games that I love (Shadow of Memories, Formula One 2001 and Crazy Taxi (despite the poor conversion)).
It's not all doom and gloom of course (and before you say it - I AM a PS2 owner).
Metal Gear Solid 2 is on the way, we're getting Virtua Tennis 2 (which potentially could be the best game on PS2) and some other dark horses including Ace Combat 4 are looming on the horizon.
I'm sure that some of you will disagree with me and that's fine but I know that of the games I have that there are only a few that I can proudly show off.
When you consider that I did that with around double that amount when I had my Dreamcast, it really is a surprise.
Let's have the backlash then.....

I will. :)
In my opinion i feel there are more than enough quality games out at the minute, maybe not as many as we would like, and want, but they are there. Maybe DC had more quality games in its life at this point, i dont know. All i can say is that developers say its harder to develop games for the PS2 than other consoles, and again, it comes down to your taste in games and whether your a ninty attacking PS2. :)
As for timesplitters i have to admitt a i never played it, im not a fan of First person shooters but i like Red Fraction.

Pro Evo Soccer
Devil May Cry
Smackdown 3
Jak and Daxter
Final Fantasy 10
Silent Hill 2
GTA 3
MGS 2
SSX trickey
Twisted Metal Black
And many more. You have your opinion on that, thats fine. But many of us feel there are loads of top quality games out or coming out.
Yes it has a poor single player game.
So what? Its a flaw yes, but not one that affects its true aim. Would you say Mario 64 was poor simply because the main character looks nothing near human, and would certainly never make a plumber? I`ve never thought the game was that good (Mario) but many say it is excellent/amazing etc... In the same way TimeSplitters is amazing as it has one of the most incredible multiplayer experiences around.
If one feature stands out enough, and gives you enough of a fun eperience, then thats all it needs to be amazing.
Crazy Taxi, Formula One 2001, GT3, ISS, Moto GP, MX2002, Red Faction, Ring Of Red, Shadow Of Memories, Tekken Tag and Xtreme G 3.
I've also had Zone of the enders and Ridge V.
I love most of them enough to play them regularly but only a few of them are (in my eyes) games that are truly something amazing.
GT3 is amazing, almost perfect in fact. It's a title that any PS2 owner can be truly proud of - something that Sony seem to agree with if their GT3 pack is anything to go by.
Starfighter looks good, plays well - yes. Timesplitters is good in multiplayer. Thing is - there just aren't enough games to truly go mad over and I'm sure it's not going to be like that for much longer.
There are some great games available for the PS2 and I think I've got some of them too but I know that the machine is capable of better.
My most recent title (XG3) is visually stunning, plays well and is seriously fast. It does have a few moments of slowdown in places (forgiveable) and on the whole is one of my personal favourites. It's not going to get people rushing down the shops or queing overnight though.
GT3 sets the benchmark for what's required in my eyes.
If others (regardless of game type) can follow then PS2 owners are in for a great future.
