If Sony want the PS2 to do well I really think they need to get a few ìPS2 exclusive games/characters available for it. At the moment, people around the world are having a think about what console to get. They are going to look at the Nintendo Gamecube and notice that it has games on it that the PS2 hasnít. I know that the PS2 has games that the Nintendo have not got but itís not the same. Mario is a huge character and sells well on whatever Nintendo console it goes on.
What Gamecube is doing right and the PS2 doing wrong is all down to exclusive titles. Many people are delighted with the fact that the Gamecube has some fantastic titles that will never be made on any other console. Take Mario for instance. This is a game that I personally think people think of when they hear the words ìNintendoî Mario always features in a game with the launch of a console. This maybe is a point that the PS2 can not win.
I was quite shocked that SSX was going to be released on the Gamecube and the X-Box. With SSX being the best PS2 game in my view, I think this is another issue that needs to be fixed. I am not talking about the issue of SSX going on different consoles, but I think Sony need to persuade game companies to make PS2 exclusive games for it. This will certainly increase the user base for it, wouldnít it?
It will also help in advertising the console. Whenever you see Nintendo advertising their machine you will nearly always see Mario lurking around.
So- anyone else agree that Sony need to get some PS2 exclusive games/characters?
and what Sony needs is a time machine to go back and fix the PS2, put some anti analysing in there and make it user friendly so maybe Resident Evil 4 wouldn't be scrapped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
damn it :-D
> What kitty thing?
I don't know all that much about it but in Japan PS has a mascot that is a manga cat thing, apparently.
The Playstation did have a mascot.
It wasn't Crash or Spyro.
Crash and Spyro were reasonable games but didn't really build big characters.
Lara Croft on the other hand...
The Playstation was aimed at 16-26 year olds mainly and Lara symbolised everything they liked.
Good looking woman with attitude.
The games got a bit tiresom after the second one though...
A PS2 character?
Gran Tourismo? Don't be silly. There's no character in that game whatsoever.
Solid Snake? Possibly. Only his creator likes other systems as well as the PS2...
Crash? He's on the Gamecube as well apparently :-D
Jax and Daxter...
It looks like a great game but I'm not sure whether the pair will have characteristic strong enough to make a mascot.
We'll see when the game is released.
Oh, and characters do sell consoles.
But it takes more than just a good character, they have to be in a good game too!
Zelda and Mario were great for early N64 sales.
And everyone saw how the machine's sales rocketed with the US release of Pokemon Stadium...
Except that Kitty thing in japan...

Alright i've had enough of this crap, mate my name is not titawhirl, nat*uc ha ha okay you can guess what that letter was. I've got people i've never ever spoken too calling me Timothy. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr my names T-I-M not Timothy.
Ultra Realistic graphics my batty hole, i've yet to see a game with ultra realistic graphics. When games are too the standard of the animation in the Final Fantasy film then maybe, but not MGS2.

Yes- exactly my point! We need more of them games on the PS2. We need them type of games that can not be played on any other console so the PS2 stands out from the crowd. The N64 had Goldeneye, which sold the console. We have GT3 at the moment which is great and loads of people love it but we need a couple more- it will do the console wonders, believe me!
I know what you mean about a Sonic like flagship character but I'm not convinced that it's essential to the success or popularity of Sony.
It's unlikely that at this stage of the Playstation brand's career that we're going to see an equivalent to Mario or Sonic.
Interesting point though.
