I tried this early but without any luck. I'm 99% sure that this is not possible, but still, if I find a way, I'll let you know.
I don't think it's possible in Fireworks, but I'll have a try.
White is transparent in these terms.
I don't think you can. Couldn't you just use the pipette to pick the colour that is next to the shape.
