The cause of this I will put down to lack of concentration caused by being distracted. Now my concentration levels are pretty high: I can do physics work and watch a film at the same time I can talk and play video games at the same time, but certain things can make my brain forget what it is supposed to be doing.
Some of the lesser effecive methods of being distracted during multiplayer sessions:
1. the elbow in the side method, size of force applied is proportional to the length of gaming distraction. usually resulting in reciprocated elbow to the side with more force
2. the hands in front of the face method, very distracting untill perpetrator is pushed away and controll is once agin resumed
3. the messing with your controller method, results in erratic movements of your "character or car...." results in game being paused and restarted
there are various other methods which then get you called a cheat such as 1 player pauses the game to go to the toilet/get a drink and the other players conspire to un pause the game to get an advantage over the other player.
The aforementioned methods are not what I was origionally talking about (I got sidetracked there) but the loss of concentration while gaming.
While watching the jeremy clarkson programme speed there was a segment with micheal schumacher and someone siad that micheal while driving at the limit could hold a conversation over the radio, I know gaming is not exactly formula one but it is similar in that you try to do more than two things at once.
(as you can probably tell I have not prescripted this)
reasons why I usually get distracted: winning too much - becomming complacent, trying out risky moves, new tactics gone wrong.........
Anyway back to what distracted me when I was playing mario kart.
I was playing my gba in the games room in my halls (the lighting is good for playing on the gba in there) and whenever someone would walk past I would pause the game so as not to get distracted too much and tohse peope who would speak to me commented on how "sweet " the gameboy was
(thats sweet in the eric cartman sense of the word and not the ahhhhh how sweet meaning).
Anyway, everything was going fine until some females walked past and I forgot to pause the game and screwed up my race. This kind of distraction is a new one to me as I usually play my computergames on my own in my room.
The same thing happens when I'm playing pool in the same games room, I play badly whenever people are watching me, but if someone is just passing through I seem to pull off some good shots. There is some gaming psychology in there somewhere.
I think I have finished writing this, but I will probably find that I have left stuff out later.
latest story of distraction:
walking through the study area on my way to the computer building and someone was having trouble with all their shopping or groceries so I offered to help so I carried half of it up 3 flights of stairs and to her room, as it turns out I know her room mate but I just handed over the shopping and said bye (I am such a fool) I subsequently got another static shock from a door handle (something to do with the combination of the trousers I'm wearing and the trainers.
Amusing part: one of the hall mentors saw me carrying the shopping who incidently saw me in the corridoors 2 nights previously drinking from a cup with a big straw in it honestly the only drink that was in it was a large quantity of coca cola, (I was carrying 2 large bottles of coke at the time) but no one believed me that there was not alcohol in it. which is a problem if you are under 21.
Fortunately the mentor must have come to the concluion that it was just cola in there and nothing else otherwise it would have been embarasing.
Sorry did I say that was supposed to be amusing, it was slightly computer linked.
next task break into more than 300 posts zone and I will become a regular!
but not the kind of regular you become by eating weetabix everyday

I'm 20 but my siblings are between 10 and 18
Gosh, you must have bruises all over your body:)

my brother and sisters have prolonged bouts of fighting
but now they have to promise my mum that if they want to play on my n64 they will not fight other wise they will not be allowed to play on it again.
