Spiderman trailer, now is missing the amazing shot of the helicopter caught in the web between the towers of the WTC.

Gone.

And movie studios are removing any and all traces of the WTC from movies. Ok, I can sort of understand that if it's set in a modern-day context and has yet to be released.
But apparently they are also going back and re-editing past movies to remove the WTC.

Why?
What the hell is with that? A lot of comments I've read have said "I'd like to remember the WTC for what they were. Symbols of America's power and ingenuity".
But any shots of the WTC are being removed systematically.

Is this another case of America re-writing it's history to ignore the bits it doesn't like?
Why pretend they were never there in the 1st place?
Seems a tad disrespectful to the families.

Stupid Hollywood logic.
Pretending it never happened at all instead of just accepting it was a tragedy but in a few months, nobody will even remember the date it happened.
I'm not being callous, but it's the truth.
Tell me the date of the Hillsborough Tragedy, or the Challenger exploding, or the Omagh bombing.

We have short memories, so remember the WTC whilst you can.

Goaty - Yep, there'll be a movie about it for sure. I'm cynical about Hollywood, at least.

Even I've gone off my original point:

All I was trying to say (not to fight with Stryke) is that people have short memories and the horror will have faded soon.

Leonardo Di Caprio, after the Columbine School Massacre "I will make no more violent movies, I feel that somehow, we in Hollywood have a responsibility towards the social make-up of this country"

Nice sentiment, I applaud that.

When is Gangs of New York coming out?

Do you see my point? Everyone rallies round a cause, but as soon as it passes, we forget and move on to tragedy of the month 2.
Like Tibet, with the Beastie Boys, Richard Gere etc campaigning about the treatment of the Tibetans at the hands of the Chinese.
Just went away.

So yes, the WTC is and always be will an horrific attack.
But we'll forget soon enough and in 10-15 years, there will be a movie about it with some postal clerk falling in love with a high-powered business woman who rescues her only to die.

that's because I am cynical all the time.

It's just who I am. Don't know why really, I just instantly ask something to provoke a response.

To quote Bill Hicks
"When two people take sides in an argument,I take the other"

heh.

Seriosuly, I'm not being deliberately argumentative, just trying to point out how cynical you seem to be all the time.

That was my point before Stryke got his panties in a bunch.

I dont understand this rush to remove any and all traces of the WTC.

Yes it was a tragedy, but to remove any indication they were ever there doesnt make sense.
Just because you cant see them, doesnt mean it didnt happen.

Yes but Phil is quitting, it won't be the same....

Seriously though, does it matter that we remember the actual date that it occured?

Surely there are bigger lessons to be learnt than the who, what's and when's, like the why's for instance.

As long as lessons are learnt from these tragedies, things change to try to stop them ever happening again - surely that's more important than the date?

After Hillsborough, all of the barriers came down, after Challenger hundreds more safety checks were put in place.

And yes, it is stupid to remove the WTC from movies and stuff. I really don't think that people seeing it in a movie will upset them, and why should it be hidden away anyway?
