I'm one of the very few who have never bought anything from Ebay, and I don't have a clue how the thing works. So I would like to know if anyone here has bought anything from there, and how payments are made.

I'm looking for Toy Story 2 for either the Dreamcast or Playstation (there is one on ebay just now, but I can't buy stuff till the weekend), and Toy Story for the MegaDrive. If anyone has these and wants to sell them then we can maybe talk, but I would like some advice about Ebay.

Thanks in advance.

NTL.

Except our username and password does'nt seem to wish to work with it at the current moment in time. We've contacted NTL about it but they have'nt said anything.

So now we are ISP-emailless.

eBay does'nt let you use your Solo card to sign up....grrrr.

I'm in the same boat as you DW - I want to sell items on eBay yet I can't because of their stupid registration system and the fact that my parents won't let me have their credit card.

Another thing. Can I use a Solo to sign up to sell on eBay? I guess not.

Well, since my mum doesn't trust eBay; she saw something on Watchdog about it; she won't let me sign up to sell using her card.

I NEED to sell on eBay...

I've used paypal for everything- it's very safe and very reliable.

From the 30+ aucions on eBay, that I've both bought and sold, there are a few things I can help you with.

Firstly, like El lokey said, feedback. Feedback. Feedback is the most accurate way of determining whether or not a seller is fraudulant. Trust me, there are sellers that are crooks. Check feedback first, then check the authenticity of the item- does it look real etc.

Then the condition. Some sellers are very vague on their descriptions. "Few scratches" may really mean "Scratched to buggery". Be wary of that.

Finally, before agreeing to a sale, check other auctions. There may be other sellers who have the same item in better condition and at a lower price.

eBay is fantastic when you're careful. If you're too risky or unsure, always ask here. People will gladly help.

So, in review:

-Avoid conmen
-don't agree to sales if you're not sure- you enter a "binding contract"
-Enjoy yourself and make some great deals.

If you are a buyer paypal is the least risky option available, at any point you can have Paypal do a chargeback to get your money back. As a seller it is dangerous, if a buyer does a chargeback after youve sent the item then the seller will be out of pocket, and there's not a lot he/she can do about it.

It stays in the account until you request it out.

That way, you can use the money to pay for stuff without any credit cards and stuff..
