Don't take this the wrong way, I currently want an X-Box, but, there's a lot of people in Japan, WAY more than there are in the UK, yet only 75 consoles could be shifted, even if it was my beloved Gamecube getting those figures I'd laugh.

That's false interpretation. Blatently.
GamesTM actually said that on 14th June, GameCube could only shift around 1,500 units a week in Japan. Why d'you think this was mentioned? Because it's very unusual. Very. Tilt commented that the average was 8,000 - 12,000 and this comment was correct.
Remember when 'Cube sales shot up to 150,000 one week thanks to Zelda? We're hardly going to say that's a regular thing, are we? And it's the same at the other end of the spectrum.
