Now, before I start I'd just like to say that I am a PS2 owner so I am extremely biased in every possible way. This doesn't matter though.

I just the latest CVG (issue 239, October) and the cover feature is about the GameCube. How exciting. 10 whole pages dedicated to it. And I knew very little about Nintendo's new console so I read it and I am shocked by the overall shoddiness.

ATTENTION: ONLY CHILDREN UNDER 5 SHOULD BUY GAMECUBE!

Out of the twenty or so launch games, over half feature cutesy little animal characters and/or garish cartoony graphics. Pikmin? Super Monkey Ball? What the hell are they? They even made Zelda in to a cartoon! For a super powerful console, 2D graphics are not acceptable even if they ARE 3D but just look 2D.

And to make it even worse, hardly any of the games are original. There's the usual Mario/Luigi nonsense, Zelda, Star Fox, Bomberman (which I admit is cool), Fifa (obviously), Super Smash Bros and loads of other games which feature numbers at the end of their names. I'm not going to complain much because a lot of the best games on PS2 are sequels too.

And...oh god I can't even bear to say it...there's bound to be Pokemon. NO! Or, rather there will be Gamecube versions of Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Green, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Platinum, Titanium, Aluminium, Cardboard and MDF.

But that's the end of my little rant. If you really like cartoony characters running around doing puzzles and stuff then I hope you enjoy your new GameCube. I'll just be driving on GT3, shooting stuff in Red Faction, slaughtering zombies on Code Veronica and couting the days until Metal Gear Solid 2.

That's it...

It really naffs me off. o and read my preview before making comments on Zelda. Or if thats too hard for you, go and read IGNs one.

I never actually liked Zelda in the first place but I don't see why they would go to the trouble to make the graphics look poor when people expect a brilliantly detailed 3D game.

When all said and done, when you fork out for a new console you want to be amazed. I was when I bought my PS2. But loading up Gamecube Zelda will probably make you think you're watching the Disney channel or something.

For a better incite into the new Zelda go to http://www.nintyuk.asp2.net/ and read my preview of it. I hope it helps you in understanding why it will still be great.

All as a joke by the way, do not take any of that seriously.

Thanks for the reply, good points made.

Parappa the Rapper 2? You must be joking... I hate that game.

I think Nintendo have made a big mistake doing Zelda like that. It is a big risk and I don't think it is worth doing on such a high profile game.

I'm not complaining about all cartoony kids games, there has to be some to appeal to the wider audience, but over half the launch titles has got to be a mite excessive.

Before you say anything, I too am a devoted PS2 owner. However...

Kuri Kuri Mix?
Jak & Daxter?
Spyro?

Nintendo have more, but they're not alone.

Parapper the Rapper 2?

Good. I can see your point, as many Nintendo fans go on about sequels on the PS2 and now they have many of their own. To say any more about the subject would really be shooting yourself in the foot.

> then I hope you enjoy your new GameCube.

Thanks. PS2 is my machine of choice, but I do intend to buy a GC.

> shooting stuff in Red Faction, slaughtering zombies on

Perfect Dark... the Resi series is now exclusive to Gamecube for 6 games. 4 are remakes, but Resi 1 looks better than ever.

Well... I'll have to give you that one! :-)
