Ambition is a tricky term; Mario 64 was incredibly ambitious, whereas Halo wasn't particularly. You've got to be careful when chucking around words like that.
But never mind. I pretty much agree with what you're saying.
Half Life and Deus EX as relatively old titles yet they are still top class to play.

I CAN see that ferchrissake! How can I make myself any clearer?
I disagreed with what Black Glove said, is that a crime? No. Does it mean I think the Xbox line-up looks poor? No. Does it mean I'd agree if he replaced the word 'Xbox' in his statement, with 'GameCube'? No.
Does it mean I just do not feel the greatest moment of gaming history is upon us? Yes. That's all.

But therein lies the problem with Nintendo - trapped in the past. Resident Evil, Mario Kart, F-Zero... It feels old to me. And SEGA is going the same way: rehashes everywhere. I want new games, new characters, new stuff in general, and the XBOX is the console offering this the most.
But having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if Fable and BC [for example] don't live up to the hype. But at the moment, I'm optimistic.
For survival horror the Resident Evil games are unmatched in every way. Skies of Arcadia is also the finest RPG to date and the Metal Gear remake has me gob smacked every time I open a new article on it.
