With years and years of development of computer development, the time has came for online gaming. With Playstation 2, X-Box, Gamecube and Dreamcast (soon to be HomeStation) all online consoles, they need a Hard Drive.

What is that I can hear you all cry?

Yes indeedy. A games console (any computer infact), internet access and a hard drive (e.g. HomeStation will have 150GB HD) means one thing.... well a couple actually.

This has what has come to my attention.

1) Hackers & Crackers - surely they could hack into the console and it would be espcially bad with the HomeStation (with it having more important stuff on).

2) Viruses - again, surely part or all of you games conole would go kaboom (well more like VVVVVvvvvvv.......*dead*) or maybe the virus might over heat it a make it literally catch alight

SO....this leads me to my conclusion.

Take a risk online with your console (fine by me :) ) and risk having your games console damaged ...OR... wait for sufficient software to intercept hackers or detect and get rid of viruses. This has been done with the Personal Computer already.
It won't be long until this software comes out but if you ask me, its a game. The companies (Nintendo, Sony etc.) surely knew this at the time and didnt want to let the public know until the time came and made a big thing out of it, making the punlice pressurised into buying security software.

Thanks for reading,
(Soon to come, a battle of consoles website :) )

People will be tempted to buy copied versions as it already shows. And the games u (might, if u have a HD :) ) download might contain them :)

This will only happen if the game is second hand. Developers like Rare or THQ wouldn't put viruses in their games just to wreck the console, they'll be sued out of business.
But even if the game is second hand, GC games will be very hard to copy in order to put a virus on it anyway.

The DC didn't have a HDD, you could surf with that and play games over the net as well.

True but still u got one less game/memory card/cheat cartridge.
And whos to say that when u buy games in the future, buy them and then put them in the machine and the console writes the game to a HD?
Therefore making everything connected and making viruses on games effetive

Even if there are viruses programmed into the discs for consoles, they won't have any affect on the console, just the game and/or memory card.

Thats nice, now you wanna tell me what the components have in common with this topic?
They could still catch alight by over heating
They only thing that ur saying is that they couldnt be infected by viruses.

1) Ur talking about a PC but its the same as a console (as in components seperate)
2) Who says there wont be viruses introduced onto game discs unsuspectedly?
