Okay the way I see it is, when the Ps2 came out it really had no competition, the N64, was never exactly the most succsessful console, and the Dreamcast...nuff said.
I think this made sony quite lazy, and not put there all in to the ps2. Little things I've noticed such as the mention of Ps3 very soon after the release of ps2, and the announcment of x-box and gamecube,(is this sony scared because they know that these consoles could potentially kick ps2s' a***) and the system being hard to program for, why? surely sony knew this would/could cause problems (with only n64 and dc to compete with maybe they didn't really care) The fact that Oddworld got pulled would suggest that the X-box is quite obviously better thant the ps2, and now that Resident Evil's been pulled and put to gamecube it could spell the end of ps2. Also the fact that the screen shots I've seen for both gamecube and x-box (bearing in mind this is PRE LAUNCH screen shots so they'll probably get BETTER!)look better than anything I've ever seen on playstation2, the fact that resi 1 on gamecube makes code veronica on ps2 look dated and primative can not be a good thing.
anyone agree

It has more experience and more good games signing up for it now. It's had a head start, and will whip anything that challenges it.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I think you're being a bit premature in your decision.

> I think this made sony quite lazy, and not put there all

And Microsoft have already begun talking about the sequel to Xbox, called the HomeStation before Xbox is even released. Development continues even though current machines are in their infancy.

> sony scared because they know that these consoles could potentially kick ps2s' a***

No, Sony are looking forward to the competition because they feel it will drive them on to bigger and better things.

> the system being hard to program for

This is untrue. The PS2 is *different* in the way it works, and as with any machine that is different, developers need time to adjust. The machine is only 'difficult' if you try to make a direct port from another system. If you work from the ground up, specifically for the PS2, there are few problems. Several developers have now said this.

> The fact that Oddworld got pulled would suggest that the
> X-box is quite obviously better thant the ps2

Nonsense. Oddworld moved to the Xbox purely and simply because Microsoft paid them a large amount of money. Originally, Oddworld Inhabitants were full of praise for the PS2. Then suddenly, after Microsoft stepped in with an open wallet, they berated the PS2 and said that Xbox offered them far better graphics, allowing them to better create the game world they had envisaged. Look at the last PS2 screenshots and compare them to the Xbox shots, and you'll see that there is little diference.

> and now that Resident Evil's been pulled and put to
> gamecube it could spell the end of ps2.

More nonsense. Resident Evil is now contracted to Gamecube for six games, four of which are remakes of old PS1 games.

Many pre-launch screens are not actual in-game graphics, and even those that are have been 'tarted up' to impress - particularly in the case of Xbox. Remember there were many impressive pre-launch demos on PS2, including The Bouncer, which bore no resemblance to anything in released versions.

> the fact that resi 1 on gamecube makes code

Resi 1 on the Gamecube has been re-made from the ground up to take advantage of the Gamecubes power. Code Veronica on the PS2 was a STRAIGHT PORT of the Dreamcast version, with little or no graphical improvement made.

If Capcom had attempted proper remake of Code Veronica in the same way as they have for Resi 1 on Gamecube, there is *no reason* that the PS2 Code Veronica couldn't look as good as Resi 1 on Gamecube.

Remember that while Gamecube has a few more hardware graphics FX than PS2, PS2 has significantly more raw power than the Gamecube.

Also, don't forget that the best-looking game on PS2 so far is GT3, and it has recently become known that - through use of the Perfomance Analyser - GT3 shows but a fraction of what PS2 can do.

One other significant factor is that Gamecube has been streamlined to allow maximum access to its capabilities from the outset. By definition means that there is less scope for games to improve. Also (from what I've read in a Nintendo interview recently) the system almost 'railroads' developers into doing things a certain way. For example, developers know that they can devote X amount of system resources to AI before they affect graphical output.

This is not the case with PS2, where the system is 'open ended' and designed to allow developers to use the power for whatever they want, and acheive their goals in their own way - not in the way that someone else *thinks* they should do it. This allows developers to 'grow' into the PS2, learning as they go and producing better and better games.

Gamecube and PS2 are evenly matched overall; PS2 excels in some areas, while Gamecube excels in others. Gamecube is purely a games system, while PS2 has bigger plans.

Xbox is technically more powerful than both machines. However I believe it will be limited by its PC roots. It has GeForce 3 graphics, but having seen the demos and having a GeForce 3 card in my PC, I am still to be convinced that this is a significant advantage.

It also has a faster processor, but let's not forget that this is an Intel chip. Intel chips do not fully multi-task, whereas those in the Gamecube and PS2 do. What this means is that you can get equivalent processing power out of a lower-speed chip that does multi-task properly (RISC chips)... as any Motorola/IBM PowerPC user will tell you.

So as I said earlier... you are entitled to your own opinion, and to make your own choice. Just make sure that your final decision is an informed one.

I agree wookie. The screens are just tarted up. Have u seen the gt3 adverts. They look even better than the game. No jaggies(pixelation)and a much faster frame rate. Its just a con i'm afraid (why they would want to with gt3 i don't know!). Put it this way, from what i've seen of X-box screens, its about a year too late.

code veronica is a dreamcast PORT.

Res 1 on the gamecube could have been made on the PS2 but probably not as easily.

PS2 isn't hard to program for as wookiee said, It's different and developers haven't had much experience with it yet.

the PS2 knew about the threat that would be coming so I don't see them being lazy. If anything they should be getting good games out quick to keep a safe place in the market. I still think the PS2 will do the best.
