From the list of console add-ons over the past gaming decade, do you know how many have actually NOT flopped?!
NONE... they're all crap. The Mega-CD, the 32X, 64DD, etc... they've all been crap. Okay, so admittedly Sony haven't had a shot yet, but is it worth it? I believe history can only repeat itself again, and with the HDD bringing little more than the oppotunity for patches (wrong road to go down!) Sony must have a secret advantage brought about from the HDD that we know no of!
People want a console... just one box, however big, fat, small of thin... having add-ons, like the HDD, can only take up more room where it isn't needed! And plus.. with more and more games becoming multi-playform, you think developers will spend EXTRA money on making the game HDD-compatible when then can do a straight port when only the PS2 is utilized?
The HDD, as 'useful' as it may be dubbed, will merely add quicker to the inevitable demise of the soon to be defunct PlayStation 2.
The Gamecubes 'Upgrades' fit INTO the bottom of the Gamecube... nothing sticking out the side... Playstation owners will no longer be in the position to call the X-Box big...! Gamecube owners however!
As bias as you may be (Bonus :D), you have to see the large down-side of the HDD; add-ons have a terrible past record. I fear the HDD will experience the same fate as the 'others'!
Thoughts?
Benefits:
Patches (in a way)
More saves without a memory card
New options in games
Downside:
More noise ( as if it'll make any difference :))
The previous attemptts at this kind of thing
more money
In all, its just another money making scheme from Sony, but for once it at least has SOME upsides. But all in all, dont waste your money unless you need to

Oh, that makes a change, doesn't it??

And with the exeption of Nintendo and Rare - which no other platform will ever have because they actuall ARE Nintendo - PS2 and Xbox have all of the same. So your point is...?

yeah i know, but you notice when watching DVDs or playing games at night when the volume is low. (low so not to wake up anyone)
I mean, the HDD is still an add-on and they suck... and the PS2 is crap because it needs loads of add-ons to catch up with the Gamecube and even then it will strugle!
The PS2 is a year 2000 console... it just won't cut it with the Gamecube and X-Box on the market... with most franchises for the PS2 going multi-platform, no-one needs it!
Gamecube has: Nintendo, Temco, Sega, EA, Capcom, Rare, Midway, Konami and Namco... these are the only real people you need! Playstation can have Naughty Cow or GT3, I don't care...
As long as Gamecube gets good games and comes off the shelf and into my lounge i'm happy... PS2 can have all the add-ons she wants!

Just for the record, I didn't say anything about the hard drive being annoying. Nice little beasts they are.
