I remember Shearer always used to hit it as straight as possible toward the side netting. Absaloutely no chance of saving it
I set high standards for myself, so I think hitting it over the bar or wide of the post as a big mistake.

It'd be a very good save if he does, the only ones the keepers are expected to get as long as they guess the right way are the ones just a foot or so inside the post and at about hip height. Those are a keepers dream apart from getting one socked down your throat in the middle of the net.
If that Portugese lad had tried that cheeky chip with me he'd have been made to look very foolish, i always used to dive after they had hit it and i knew which way it was going relying on my 6'5 frame to make up for the second or so difference inbetween diving as they hit the ball. Only ones that got past me are the ones that were hammered hard right in the bottom of the corner or blazed into the roof of the net.
