These things are never as bad as you would imagine. I was scared stiff that I wouldn't make any friends and wouldn't get on with the people on my course, yet one of the people who was in the line just ahead of me got talking to me and...well, two years later we shared a student house and next week he'll be my best man at my wedding. Now, getting married is definetly scarier...

Don't worry about it. You won't be alone in how you're feeling and you certainly can't be as bad as me in these kind of situations.

Whether or not that helps remains to be seen...
