After most of the initial shock of the horrific events that occurred Tuesday morning on September 11, 2001 began to sink in, some Americans began to wonder how it would affect certain things in their lives that seemed much more important just a few days ago. Much of the questions we've received here at IGNPS2 over the past 48 or so hours have been regarding the status of certain games that deal with violent issues.
The game brought up the most was Konami's highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, which happens to feature terrorists in New York City as one of the game's adversarial parties. The speculation that has been circulating is that the game would either be delayed or cancelled in the West because of the recent happenings in the United States. Today, we've received an official statement from Konami Computer Entertainment Japan regarding the effects of the simultaneous terrorist incidents in the United States on its upcoming product.
"We do not know what effects there will be upon Metal Gear Solid 2 at this moment. We are currently collecting and analyzing information regarding this matter and would like to express our condolences to the victims of the tragedy."
Well unfortunately that could mean that the game may be delayed.

i have been quite affected by the disaster in the USA but it hasnt affected me when i am playing computer games. I have been playing Perfect Dark and Onimusha the last few days and i have not have any problems. Becasue i know it isnt real...my fave part in Perfect dark is...
1. disarm the enemy...
2. watch them give up and beg for thier life.
3. Knock em out with slap.
4. Grab a shot gun and shoot them inbetween the eyes. the little jig they do before they die is quality.

I think it was Seifer who mentioned being uncomfortable playing certain games below (I forgot to use Quote Message, so I can`t be sure). I completely agree. Even though the enemies in Res Evil are all zombies, it has felt very strange fighting them. I`m still comfortable with stuff like GT3, but MGS2 may be a little tough to get round.
For us, I`m sure it`ll be alright in a few weeks or months, but for the Americans, especially those with any involvement, it may take a lot longer.

It seems the Japan release will still be around Christmas time - Still no european release date though - Shame!!
It doesn't surprise me that the US version is to be the only one delayed, but I'm glad that it doesn't seem likley that the GB version will be delayed any more so than what it already is! If the terrorism keeps going on, will the game actually get released over there within the near future?

I can understand why MGS2 would be delayed for a while, I felt that playing on Perfect Dark today was a bit disturbing, even if it has nothing to do with the America Tragedy, I felt rather guilty meshing the Meat Sim's head into the wall.
MGS2 will be just as good if it is delayed for a while, if anything this means that it gives Konami more time to improve the game, maybe because the game is being delyed means that it is a good thing!
