For better or worse, that is true. Although 'PC hardware' anorak is more accurate! :-)

Okay, I take the point made here. I should not have been so condescending in my post. It wasn’t needed.

I didn't mean to go off at Adrian.

However, I don't believe the phrase 'I think' has any place in a post where you are giving someone information on the facts and technical spec of any piece of hardware - you either state the FACTS, or if you don't know, you don't say. It posts like this that lead to the huge amounts of misinformation on the web with regard to PC hardware and in particular the video card industry.

But as I say, I could, and should have worded my post much better.

Sorry if I annoyed you Adrian, it wasn't intentional.

And also for the record, I am not really a newbie. I was a regular on these forums but because I opened the account when I worked at SR, I can no longer have the reminder email sent to me as I left over a year ago – so I no longer have the same email addy. Hence the new account.

Also Uncle Albert, I will bear in mind what you said about ‘most people on these boards not knowing hardware details’. This won’t stop me correcting people when they post BS, but I will do it in a polite manner. :-)

Peace.

I am also pretty annoyed at the comments about adrian. I've flamed many people for not knowing their stuff on these forums, but it's always because they are blatantly pointing people in the wrong direction - adrian has never done this, and he knows his stuff, asides from a few minor innacuracies in this post which we're all guilty of. If the post is generally helpful but contains errors then just publish corrections without all this "you blatantly doesn't understand" patronising bs. He blatantly does understand the different technologies, anyone reading his post could gather that.

After all, it's not as if the Radeon card numbering scheme is easy to follow is it. Unless you're a graphics card anorak, to be frank, it is difficult to remember exactly where they switched over from DX8 to DX9 etc.

Lurk more.

I'm sure still definetly waiting to get my new machine with a 9800 Pro. Dell = s-l-o-w, but the cheapest by about £500, so balances out.

If it helps I've got an ATI Radeon 9800 and it seems to play everything so far without any problems. That's not the PRO version of the card by the way, just the 9800.

It's like an ITV gameshow.
