As you will know, I am a very proud PS2 owner.

Though I was slightly disappointed, I wasn't overly concerned about the Resident Evil series going to Gamecube. The deal is for 6 games. Four of those are already on PlayStation, meaning that it essentially only means two truly original games for the 'cube, although the rest may receive subtle gameplay updates. After that, the games are sure to be ported to other systems.

I wasn't concerned about playing 4 remakes of games that I had already played years ago. But then I looked at the screenshots etc. of the 'cube versions, and it looks fantastic.

I was always planning to get a Gamecube eventually (due to the Star Wars game and a couple of others), but after seeing this, I am *gestures with fingers* this close to pre-ordering a 'cube from SR.

Don't get me wrong - I am not 'turning away' from Sony. PS2 will still be my primary machine. There are far more games coming for that system that I am interested in, and I will continue to defend it against the occasional nonsense posted in these forums. But as I've always said, I have nothing against Nintendo and would buy a machine if there were enough games of interest to justify it. And it seems like this time around, there will be.

I still have some reservations about the Gamecube though. From what I've been reading, the opening day sales in Japan have been slow and fairly disappointing. With small queues and no mad rush as there has been for other systems in the past, it as if the Japanese gamers aren't particularly bothered by its arrival.

Based purely on what is only a first impression, I can't help but wonder if developers such as Capcom may regret pledging major franchises such as Resi to an unproven system, when they could make a killing (no pun intended) from sales on PS2.

If anyone I knew was asking for advice on which of the next-gen machines to purchase, I'd still have to recommend a PS2, as I personally truly believe it still offers the best variety of software. But I certainly would disuade them from a Gamecube.

So... on the basis of what I've said here... I will hold off on the pre-order to see how things develop. Reading back over what I've written, I realise that this sounds very negative, and may even sound like a thinly-veiled anti-Gamecube post, but I can assure you it isn't. There's plenty of time yet, and I will have one eventually, but these are genuine thoughts, opinions and concerns.

And one final thought... the 'cube is nowhere near as small as I envisioned it! I saw a photo on IGN with it next to a PS2 and Dreamcast, and it looks quite hefty!

I do hope that's intended as a joke, matey!

You're either for PlayStation 2 or Gamecube. No sitting on the fence.

If you're backing the X-Box, you're in the wrong game!

Remember that Code Veronica is more or less a straight port from the DC. Had Capcom wished, there's no reason that PS2 CV couldn't look pretty much the same as the GC versions.

Capcom took the easy route, as they did with Onimusha - great game, nasty borders.

I'm happy with my PS2 but it makes you wonder when dreamcast conversions look better than PS2 games, I mean Code Veronica X has been touched up a bit but the graphics compared to most PS2 games stand WAY above it. The "jagged" edges drag some of the fantastic PS2 visuals way below dreamcast level and it's a shame.

I look forward to getting a gamecube especially if Nintendo keep the cost down but i think the PS2 will always be my most played on even though it has "issues"

Atleast it's being released with 3 potential AAA Games.
And at a low price of $120 Or £80.
Not bad.

This just might be my feeling... but I thought it was a very cozy launch!

It's the only word I can use to describe it... nobody got all hyped up, they just went in, bought the system, all three of the games, (And who wouldn't?), and walked away smiling and happy that they got what they wanted.

I would love to have been out in Japan, waiting from 4:00AM in the morning, perhaps. Just sitting in a queue chatting about the system with other people who all enjoy the same things as you. Hardly that many people, too.

Seems reminiscent of a certain forum we used to have. :0)

Totally agree with you Wookiee!

The Gamecube has a few games that I really like the look of- Pikmin and Mario to name a few.

However, like you, I still think that to *me* the PS2 is still the better console.

I have already claimed Star Fox Adventures for one of my GAD’s so I will obviously be getting a Gamecube.

I am pleased that I am fortunate enough to be able to afford both consoles (not at the moment, but I will same up :) )

However, I am still not too keen on the ‘Cube’s controller- still, I’m sure I’ll live with it!

Gamecube... mmm... have you seen the packaging? Read the article on BBC News... it's pretty nice.
