Yeah, I'm not sure maybe it's a money thing. They cant afford to have the wedding yet but they need a place to live so they end up living together and keep pushing the wedding back.
Still I think living together first is a good idea. Just maybe not for years before marriage.
So who do you think out of all of us will be married first? (apart from Smedlos who's getting married this summer)
@ngel do you have a back up? I'll be your back up =) if neither of us are married by the time we're 30 then we'll get together.
Nah I'm sure Nin's already got you to sign a contract. He's probably got Trish and Ladybird as backups too. =P

I disagree. I think it's a good thing to have some sense of what it's like being tied together before you're properly tied together. How many longterm couples have you seen collapse after getting married because they cant adapt to the mindset. Everything is more permanent, you dont take a break, you get divorced instead. it's all stress and long engagements are a pretty solid idea.
Though I agree it seems silly to get engaged then wait years to get married ... definitely a western thing.

For the chinese, they expect you to get married not long after getting engaged. The idea of waiting several years is alien to them.
After 10 years together they probably feel married already. So to them it'll seem more like an expensive party. I think I'll do it the old fashion way =) infact I might even have to give her mum a dowry =( some chinese still practise that. I said to my girlfriend she's probably worth S$100 =) which is about £33.

I thought the story of Alice in Wonderland was the result of a very powerful drug trip.
