Today, I stongly believe I have played the best PS2 racer to date:

Extreme G III

The graphics in this game are amazing. The detail and imagination used around the tracks is ace. Have you see the bridge on the second level?! Amazing! The developers (Acclaim?) seem to have used the shining particle effect (ala 'Celda') to act as the regeneration 'rivers' that regenerate your ammo and boost power - ala F-Zero.

Now, being quite critical of the first and second incarnations of the EG series, I really had to swallow my pride. I spent about 45 minutes playing this game, 45 of my minutes that I actually enjoyed playing a PS2. Don't get me wrong, the PS2 has pro's in abundance, but for people who are quite reserved in their praise of the PS2, this is the game that will break the silence!

The sheer speed of the game is enough to get you going... when you boost you feel like you're travelling at a million miles an hour! If it weren't for the A* control incorporated the game would be uncontrolable! What excited me was the prospect of the Gamecube version. I know there is one. With the PS2 version you can turn in three ways. The 'D-Pad', 'R1' and 'L1' and the 'Analogue' pad. And if you notice, you can use either the Analogue and the D-Pad for a 75% turn then add the extra turn by using theshoulder buttons.

Have you noticed the GC shoulder buttons. they're like triggers... pressure sensitive - imagine how much control you'd have over the bikes in the GC version. I believe the GC version will be better, but only because of this.

I would seriously reccommend this game to any owner of a platform that hosts this game! I really do think the game is one of the best around! It's just a shame it'll be over shadowed so many big names like PIKMIN, Luigi, SFA and Melee. Not to mention MGS2, DMC and so on.

Take a look anyway, it's a wikid game!
