As i've already said Nintendo just need that absolute killer ad campaign in the run up to crimbo for the likes of mario kart, 1080 and f-zero to make it the best Christmas ever!
I just cannot wait to see those sales figures for the next few months.

Funnily enough, I was having a conversation with my friend (an incredibly hardcore PC-only gamer) about the GameCube price-drop. Predictably, he launched into a rant about how PC gaming 'rules all' and he wouldn't pay £80 for any console on the market.
Upon flicking open the latest GamesTM to the Double Dash preview, however, his eyes lit up. "Admittedly, out of all the games I've played on consoles, you've got to credit Mario Kart. I loved that game." Sure, it's not enough to make him buy a GC, but watching a strongly PC FPS orientated gamer get excited about a Mario Kart sequel (while overlooking every other console game in the mag), just proves the extent of that game's power.

Of course. To Joe Public, True Crime is better than GTA by default because it's newer and has better graphics. Noticing the game's on GameCube won't make them want to buy one, but will cancel out the urgent need to buy an Xbox/PS2 just to play GTA. It gives the Cube a fairer chance.

I think not. Practicly every person my age (well, boys, and a few girls) I know has played Mario Kart, and several are interested in the new one. But then again, I only know so many people. I think however, people have not decided to ignore Mario and chums. Thats a stupid thing to say IMO. Mario Kart should sell very very nicely.
As far as party gaming goes Sony

The Eyetoy is annoying. Its been hailed as 'revolutionary' by the press, and thats because it appeared on the PS2. If it was on Cube, it'd still be loved, but by a few million less people.

I know that, but it appears to offer the same content as GTA. Most morons won't give a toss if its got good scores or not. They'll get it.
EVERYONE loves mario kart.
Seriously.
Perhaps not Mario, Pikmin, Pokemon or Zelda, but Mario Kart is a very big game. Plus, to me, the GameCube has loads and loads of brilliant exclusive XMas titles, and more than I can see on the XBox or PS2.

One thing that I think Nintendo should do now is drop the GBA SP price. 89.99 seems so expensive now when someone could buy a GC for 79.99 ! Maybe a bit of an own goal there...though Nintendo have that market safely in their grasp until the PSP arrives as the N-Gage is effectively dead on release.
True Crime is coming to GC, and it may not be as good (we don't know as of yet) but for 'those kids', its the same thing, with more in it, and that all important violence.
Mario Kart carries more weight than any other game coming out this Christmas.
From my experience parents don't just go out an buy the cheapest thing, they go out and buy what their little terrors ask for, which - given the current market - will be whatever has the violent/gangster/bloody/18Rated/"mature" games on it.
Such is the price gaming pays for wanting to go mainstream.
It was far better when gaming was the preserve of a minority - Nintendo stood a chance then.

Put it like that and you can't help but dance.
