Exactly mr.Snuggly. We can't do jack. If they hi-jack one of our planes with 600 people on it what do we do? shoot it down? Or leave it to crash?

Its one of those horrible lose-lose situations.

Sadly, what was already a very dangerous world has entered new territory today.

There has to be very real concern that the UK will (at some point) come under similar attack. We have all seen images of both US and UK flags being burned on the streets throughout the Middle East and there is no doubt that in some quarters we are viewed public enemy No2 - just behind the US. What with the terrorist threat from Northern Ireland, now this, you have to say that we (in the UK) are at greater risk than ever before (at least since WW2). I have great sympathy for those who (currently) have to travel into the capital to earn their living.

This, in my eyes, is the really, spine-chillingly scary thing: There is nothing, NOTHING, you can do to stop this from happening again. What the whole thing came down to, the twin towers, the pentagon, everything, is the slightly lax security on some domestic flights. You can do nothing to protect your building from someone flying an airplane into it.

For every single security breakthrough, and added security measure that is implemented, if someone wants to fly an airplane into a densely populated building, then they're sick enough to have the means to do so. Security is one thing, but if you have the power, the money and the means to organise something like this, if you want to do it that much, you can.

I feel extremely shaky today, it's affected me in a big way, but I feel guilty because i'm sitting here in my cosy office with a cup of tea. Probably about 50,000 died today, and nothing could have stopped it. I pray that America respond calmly, and do not start another war, this seems to me to be the kind of thing that has dented America's national pride - they'll retaliate and say 'look, our weapons are bigger than yours really'.

I'm going home soon, but I'd like to continue reading your responses. Thanks.

In the news recently, I have seen adults screaming at children going to school because they have a different faith, an arms expo at Earl's Court right now, and now this.

We are monkeys with better weapons, that's all we are.
I can't get my head around today's actions at all, it's just so far beyond anything I can understand.
I'm just left stunned and saddened by this.

The immediate reaction is to scream for blood, but that just carries on the cycle.
But you cant let them get away with it.
This will never end, we will continue to hate and murder and kill each other simply because we can.

Animals kill each other for food, that's it.
I dont see them committing barbaric acts of senseless murder.
I have spent a lifetime shouting and yelling about trying to change things, trying to make a difference.
I joined Amnesty International, I shout about Child Labour, I refuse to wear logo clothes.
And at the end of the day, it didn't do a damn bit of difference to what happened today, nor will it.

Everything I try to do to make a difference, and hundreds/thousands of people died today because some people didn't like The USA

What's the point man?
For all my passion, for all my screaming my soul out to try and change things, today happened anyway.

I am goddam ashamed to be part of this planet today, anyone watching what has happened would close the door and leave us to it.

There is no exact death toll - and speculation can take you no further to the truth than predictions.

It could turn out that not so many people were killed. As for the people on the planes...

..Who knows who they were, what they were feeling.

I'm sure this day will go down in history, for good reasons and bad... bad is the loss of life and the realisation of how much humanity has taken a back seat to so many other things. Good is that there is still good in the world, people giving blood, comforting others, and helping where they can.

The Americans may be a bit wierd at times, but overall they're not a bad people.

God Bless Them.

I also feel like i should add something about the financial side. Those of you who say it is irrellevant (sp) are quite mistaken. The fact that they targetted the trade centre should be testiment to how important the financial market is.

What happened today is not just sad, it is sick.

The schedule that this terrorism followed is testiment to the cold hearted nature of the attackers, i feel that the American government is under great pressure from the people to avenge the deaths of friends and familiy members.

People are saying bomb the palestines silly, and others disagree. But you have to remeber that if the USA does not retaliate in any way then they will be labeled as being all talk and no trousers, and targets for further terrorism attacks.

Those people who have seen the palestines dancing in the streets, united in celebrations, have probably been outraged, just as i was at the ignorance of what actions they have done.

Primarily, the Americans must retaliate. However the magnitude of their retaliation is their decision.

But when considering the sheer scale of this act, i must say i hope the americans retalliate in a big way!
