so! anyone else had some of their channels taken away??

no more star trek, simpsons or futurama by crikey!

it`s all a bit crap, but the message put up by Virgin when you tune in to where the channels used to be is pretty cool:

"...they`ve picked up their ball and gone home"

nice to know multi-billion pound corporations aren`t above some playground whining :D

Im on Virgin and dont even know which channels have gone. Is it Sky one and Sky sports news? The only thing I'll miss there is Futurama and they are all repeats anyway.

Oh yes. At about £70 for dish and installation it's well worth it. No subscription either and you get the channels you are supposed to pay for too!

When you leave for Spain, will you get a dish to pick up UK channels?

And no Spanish channel for the wife =)

Is that a new channel by the way? I dont remember seeing it when we had Sky. Just the Mandarin channel, which is weird because most of the Chinese in the UK are Cantonese speakers.

Yes, you can, but the downside is that it will only record the channel you're watching.

If you can get freeview, you can now get multi-channel sets and even ones which record one channel and let you watch another. They're coming down in price and seem to be the future of freeview (until the next big thing comes along).

I'm sure if the signal here gets good enough I may move to freeview, but then we won't have the choice of so many channels.

It's not double, it's just £10, though that's still a pain. You can have Sky piped through your RF Cable (ariel lead) to another room and have a little remote sensor to change channels. This will mean that you can only watch one channel though.

I know what you mean about Sky+ though. I think you should just have to pay for the box and that's it. I'd get it then.

Last time we were with Sky 3+ years ago, they kept raising their prices. I think it went up 50p a month again, so we decided to cancel it. Actually we didnt really watch it much anymore but we gave our reasons for the cancel because of the price increases.

They really dont want you to leave do they? I think their best offer was 1/2 a years subscription 50% off. You should try and get a discount that way too, just dont blame me if it doesnt work =)

I'm sure when I get a place of my own, I'll get Sky again. I have a love hate relationship with them. I dont see why you should have to pay double for someone else to have a Sky box in their room. Or rent Sky+ for £10 a month. I suppose it wouldnt be so bad if we didnt have to pay for the TV license as well.

Well, I have Sky because the terrestrial reception is too weak here, so I have no choice (well, it's Sky or a very ghosty analogue signal).

Ignoring the political and financial side of the company and its CEO, the Sky package isn't too bad and we get TVE (the Spanish channel) which we'd normally need a second dish for.

If I went with Sky broadband I'd be saving money too. I currently have a BT contract costing £26.99 for around 2mb Broadband and pay £21 or so for Sky. For the same price (or less) I could get all that from Sky and get Sky movies thrown in.
