I'd go for:
Irons: 3, 5, 7, 9
Woods: 1, 3
A Putter
Oh and a hell of a lot of balls.
You'd be best to get some over sized clubs with large swet spots. Any oversized are good, expect to pay about £150 - £200.
If you're tall you'll need to get longer clubs and get the head-angle changed by about 2-5 degrees.
Buy lake balls, they're much cheaper and you can get calaway, titleist etc...
Go for it...
remember:
Keep your head down
check your stance
wear a glove on your weak hand
if you have a tendancy to slice close the face or stand closer to the ball
your temperament has much to do with your game. bad mode - bad game, and so on.
Good Luck....

I suck but I love playing
In answer to your question, I do play a bit of golf. I'm an average player but I do have my own set of clubs.
