a '3d THRILL SIS 315, clocking at a behemoth 130mhz core and 150mhz memory.

strange thing is, it 'looks' the dog's danglies. it has two boards that make it look like a multi-storey car park with a balcony.

I haven't looked to check, but if Tyan modified their card away from the base 9600 spec then they may also need to modify their drivers. But I haven't checked, and it may not have been a driver problem anyway, I'm quoting from memory.

Well if its driver quality then its nothing to do with Tyan its ATI. I have a Hercules 9800 Pro and I get the ATI drivers from the ATI site. If you had a Tyan card you would do the same. So driver quality isnt an issue, and if it is it effects every Radeon owner not just Tyan owners.

I did think you'd thrown it in the bin actually, I've seen bigger acts of stupidity in my time. Like I said, selling hardware is not something I think about regularly, which is why I perhaps didn't consider that option.

I hope it works out for you, but I've heard a few bad things about the Tyan card. Having said that it was only a few bad things (mainly about customer service or driver quality, from memory) and a peruse through a couple of reviews have allayed a lot of my personal fears.

So how much did the card cost you, taking into account selling your old card?

Unless I've missed something, the only referance to throwing away the card was: "Would you honestly recommend to someone that had an FX5600 that they
should throw it in the bin, and get a 9600 Pro instead?". He didn't suggest that you threw it away...

what, so you think i put my old card straight in the crusher? maybe you take me for much more of an imbecile. and nowhere did i mention binning it. the closest i can think of was "booted out the door". maybe i should have explained it word for word, so that people did not take it literally.

And i didn't get just a 9600 pro. I got it from Tyan, who've proved theirselves very strong card makers, with tons of card tweaking and tuning toys to play with, and a nice set of software to keep it stable.

Fine, I am not psychic though. I am not fond of letting go of hardware I've got around the place - I have a few computers, and always have a need for spares. Selling PC parts on is not something I often consider.

You are mistaking me for someone else. You mentioned both those games before me. I won't stick the knife in.

If he can do it, quickly, and get a good price for his card, then yes it's an option worth considering. It is a lot of heff though, personally I don't bother selling things of mine on. The intonation in his original post was that he'd binned the other card.

I am being sparing in my dissection of your post so as not to provoke much of a response, as I have no interest talking with you either. You're free to think what you like about the way I conduct myself, I've learned not to contest the opinion of people like you (hi flame warz). For your information I am probably older than you, although I suspect you twigged this long ago. Remember that you were the one who thought it'd be funny to quote me on another forum for your buddies, is that adult behaviour?

We'll agree to disagree then.

I'm terribly, terribly, TERRIBLY sorry miserableman, but the truth is that once slamming the new card in, i've seen an admirable change in my system. not only (despite being overclocked to 130% of it's CPU core) does it maintain a much cooler posture, but has allowed me to bump EVERYTHING in my games to a much nicer setting. PLUS, it's anisotropic and anti-aliasing is much more effectively powered than the FX, which would stumble if i bumped it up to anywhere near 4X.
And to add to the benefits, every reason i bought this new'un in the first place has been corrected (at my pleasure), including choppy Halo performance, which was riddled with glitches and slowdown. Also, i have seen a much better capacity for quality in all the others i've tried.

It's an excellent change, and i don't regret it.

I guess the truth hurts.

He didn't 'throw his FX5600 in the bin. He sold it and put the cash toward a better vid card. But that is by the by.

Also, you mentioned HL2 and Doom 3 first!! Then you slate me for using them as a reason why a 9600Pro is a much better choice than a FX5600! What’s all that about?

And the main point I was trying to get through to your thick head was that it’s not just about frame rates – something which you seem to be obsessed with! The features that a video card has is really important at this stage as we start to see games with real DX9 features – features that on an FX5600 you are not going to be able to use. The video card market has moved away from simple FPS being the defining factor of a GFX card – it’s about good IQ and playable frame rates – i.e. 60FPS.

And the point is that if you look at games that are using DX9 functionality, you would know that the FX range are have a tough time of things. Now, to my mind, if I could sell of the FX now (as the guy did) and get a decent price for it, then surely you are better off swapping cards now, cause in a few months the FX5600 is going to be worth nothing, and it’s going to really struggle giving the user the IQ he wants at playable frame rates. I am not saying the 9600Pro is gonna’ last 5 years longer than the FX, but at least he’ll be able to play the big up coming games of this xmas and beyond (most of which has some DX9 functionality) at a good frame rate with most of the eye candy. Something the FX would not be able to do. And for that reason only, even you can surely see the sense in this decision!!! Or maybe not.

However, to be honest, I have no interest in talking about anything with you, as you are blatantly just some kid who has not yet developed the ability to have a reasoned conversation. Furthermore, I am far more obsessed with accurate and truthful points being made, opinion is not the same as fact – something you may learn with age.

So you just keep on ranting about me being a nerd (which is a fair point) simply because I have a different opinion. I don’t really care. And I still think my initial assessment of you is spot on. You really are clueless.
